Story in the snow...Damn nature, you scary.
Driving down a snowmobile trail yesterday and came across this. Ruffed Grouse (kind of like a bush chicken) will dive into the snow and sleep under the snow to keep warm.
Owls hunt by sound, and can hear the bird underneath the fresh snow. Their hearing is so good they can pinpoint exactly where that bird is, and pounce feet first onto it, kill it and eat it. You can see the wing marks where the Owl pounced on the grouse, then dragged it onto the trail and ate everything but the backbone and feathers.
Imagine thinking you are safe and sound under the snow, the next second you are being eaten. Animal senses make us look pretty pathetic.

Had a bear open try and open the tailgate to my truck a few months ago. Heard a bang outside at like 9pm, look out and a huge bear is running away. I go over and look around and see the dirt on my tailgate is scratched where the tailgate release is. Gave me a whole new level of respect for the beast. Now I carry bear spray any time I walk around in the woods.
They must sit there and watch. Scary

for animals in the wild it's just about survival. but with humans we actively want to hurt each other physically or emotionally

but even animals aren't as vicious as us. i once saw a bear look at a deer walking right by the dude and he already had a salmon or fish in hand and he just let the deer go lol. they looked at each other with a head nod howdy neighbour. it's just 100% survival

Everyone thinks the outdoors is just full of animals that are just ready to tear you to pieces.
I always get asked about fishers, which are the little cousin to the wolverine. "arent they vicious??"
Vicious? well, yes, in that they are very adept at feeding themselves, which just happens to involve hunting, finding, and eating things smaller than themselves.
I have grabbed them by the neck scruff and let them out of snares they were tangled in. Amazing creatures, yes, but its not like most animals hold grudges, or want to hurt you. The ones I have held alive just wanted to get away and were willing to do whatever they could to make that happen. But they do it because they are scared chitless of me.
There is no purposeful malice in the animal kingdom.
Humans? well fuk...
