I can get my car fixed by an overpriced American or a fair priced Illegal.

Why would I choose the American?

It’s legal for me to pay the illegal to fix my car. Also the illegal does a better job and is cheaper.

You are paying an illegal, who will most likely send that money off to Mexico, harming the US economy. You realize the biggest economic input in the Mexican economy is funds repatriated from the US, right?

Good work isn't cheap and cheap work isn't good.

Honestly, if Jose is better, he's not going to charge much less. An illegal business may charge less, because they aren't paying the taxes, insurances and other expenses that makes running a legit legal business so expensive. So take your car to Hector, if he messes it up, you are up chit creek without a paddle. Something goes wrong later, you take it back, "no, no we no see no Hector no more". Then again he might be on point, you never know.

Does OP not know how easy it is to do most maintenance and fixes yourself? Once you're slightly comfortable you'll save yourself $100-400 an hour doing it yourself. An illegal doing a better job? Highly doubtful. No loss to them if they don't.

Far better off paying more up front for a used Japanese car that needs little maintenance and fixes and letting Americans occasionally fix it than buying American and letting an illegal fix it.

Illegals generally do better work than your typical lazy American.

I used illegals to install a deck. Wen to Home Depot, rounded up some dudes, and they did quality work.

Lazy American wanted to charge more and do chit work.
