Insomniacels (need help on sleeping aids)

My wife simply cannot fall asleep sometimes and is super tired the next day. We've tried fans, but the dogs moving around keep her awake. I am looking for advice on sleeping pills. Something that will allow her to get to sleep quickly and stay asleep. After reading the reviews on a lot on Amazon, I still dont know what to buy.

Anyone can share what they use if they suffer from this as well?

I just started wearing socks to bed - there's some small studies that show it helps a person fall asleep due to temp regulation etc etc.

For meds I'd use plain old generic allergy (Diphenhydramine) meds. Get 100 at walmart for like $4.

I've tried all prescription meds and would strongly suggest you avoid them.

Has she tried gummy melatonin? Start off with 5mg (one gummy if 5mg each, read the label)
I take 10mg of this exact one every night an hour before bedtime:

I also take Doxylamine Succinate as it helps me stay asleep (as opposed to diphenhydramine HCL, stuff in zzzquil, etc... does nothing for me)

Try and report back, srs. These two things saved my sleep and have been for years.

Everything I've read has said you should only take 1mg or so nightly because all melatonin does is tell your body when it's night-night time. I would really turn to supps/medication as a last resort. Has your wife always had this issue or is it new?

10mg of melatonin is fine, just remember to cycle off it every 3 months or so. Add in Valerian root and ZMA and she should pass out hard. White noise is good too, like the AC or a fan or a noise generator.

Don't be surprised if sleep aids make your wife more irritable/angry SRS. That's why I stopped taking them and only get natural sleep regardless of how little I might get

Sleep aids, pills, melatonin, doxylamine, its all garbage. 99% of the time these things will work day 1, then the next day you will be waking up every 2 hours.

You need to practice sleep hygiene, have a small โ€œritualโ€ you do everyday before bed.

For example, I always eat cereal before bed, followed by a cup of tea, followed by 30 mins of youtube videos of something I like that I know will not cause stress ( so no news or any website forums ).

Try natural remedies like chaminole, tumeric, ginger. Also you said the dogs wake her up? Then thatโ€™s your problem
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"

going to order 5 mg gummies, guess we can cut them in half if need to take smaller doses

She's always had issues falling asleep. Fans help a lot but lately she's had a lot going on at work so her mind is racing a lot.

They like to drink water at night so their paws click on the ground and keep her awake. Plus they snore. I personally fall right asleep with them laying on top of me. But for her the slightest sounds keep her up.

Nah, 10mg is fine - 1mg wouldn't do chit for me. I tried 3, then 5.. 10mg was the sweet spot. Been to my doc twice since I started taking it, said no issues at all/bloodwork is healthy as can be.
I don't wake up irritable or pissy, jump up without ever hitting snooze, alert all day, etc...

I'm not saying your other advice isn't good, but this part I can 100% contest by my own experiences. It legit works every night and I only wake up to piss/fall right back asleep.

I take ZMA (think the A is actually b6 now).

No idea if it's placebo but I sleep solidly and within about 30 seconds of head on pillow.

There is usually a reason for poor sleep. I had horrible sleep issues for years. I didn't start sleeping well until I started waking up early and training, consistently.

My suggestions before going to supps/meds:

1.) look for external factors causing the issues. You mentioned the dogs, room temperature, mattress quality, sheet quality, ect.
2.) Get her body on a sleep schedule. Going to bed at random hours, and waking up random hours isn't good for healthy sleep patterns. You should aim to get to bed and wake at roughly the same time every day.
3.) Diet is also important. You'd be amazed how much inflammatory foods can disrupt sleep.
4.) Exercise, preferable first thing in the AM before work/life begins. I get up at 4AM to train at 445. I pass out every night by 930 no problems.
5.) No screen time an hour before bed or doing anything to overly stimulate her mind. Last hour before bed should be mental come down time.

If the Benadryl and melatonin don't work for me, and I can't fall asleep or wake up in the middle of the night, I will take a hot shower, then eat warm oatmeal, or maybe cold cereal. That usually relaxes me to sleep.

this right here. I've taken melatonin and valerian in the past and some nights I would almost fall asleep standing up.

Plenty of other effective ingredients in there too. And the melatonin is actually sustained release.

I've used melatonin alone. And I've used Tranquility.

The difference is night and day (pun intended).

This is a good point. Been looking to get a more firm mattress (preferably in a box so I can order online). Anyone got any suggestions on a good firm one?

Might also want to try out breathing techniques/meditation before bed. Might sound crazy but I mediate before bed, especially when i've had a stressful day at work and it helps me a lot. Supplementation is fine for a short period but you definitely do not want to rely on that.

Strong narcissism. Brb OP asks for help, you completely disregard him and just start sharing your experiences and dating dreams lol.

OP, is your wife a happy person? How are things financially? Does she like reading?
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

First, follow the basics like going to bed and getting up at the exact same time every day. Turn off all bright screens at least an hour before bedtime. Get exercise every day. Eat a good diet. I have had terrible sleep problems and following these basic steps has resulted in a lot of improvement.

If she's stressed then she needs to do something relieve the stress. If the problem is that when she tries to go to sleep she's overwhelmed with thoughts that cause her anxiety then she should spend some time every day doing nothing but thinking about what's bothering her. If you stay busy all day and bedtime is your first opportunity to reflect on the day it can be hard to not focus on stressful things. If I have some issue bothering me I try to think about it well before bedtime.
