I have lost multiple childhood friends to the Opiod crisis...

Yet it still amazes me that people mess around with this stuff. It’s sad honestly.

Just never forget who is responsible. When the time comes, we must make them pay for their crimes against humanity.

I've noticed a similar trend. Wouldn't happen so frequently if not for them running out of money and resorting to street drugs that are hard to dose properly.

It's very possible to dabble without any addiction forming, but it does seem like a lot of people can't handle it

Same bro. Losing more of them every year. My childhood best friend, who I’ve known for over 20 years, has died 4 times yet refuses to get help. Nothing has worked. Jail, rehab, interventions, court, it’s all useless. Last I heard he was living on the streets doing gay tricks for H in a city about 4 hours away (very srs). Breaks my heart but I learned long ago you simply cannot help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves.

A lot of them have a accident or surgery and get addicted to the painkillers, and then move to the street drugs.

If we legalized drugs and dispensed them through pharmacies, then we would solve a lot of our problems. But too many prison guards and police would lose their jobs, so that's not going to happen.

I'm very sorry to hear that. That is tragic.

I was recently reading troubling news on how the COVID lockdowns have unfortunately resulted in an increase in opium overdoses.

Lost a lot of childhood friends (usually friends brothers, if I'm being honest) and the friends I met in my late teens / early twenties to ODs. Wish they would've switched over to kratom or something.

I should be able to go buy some codeine at the corner store.

Restrictions on that sort of thing didn't start to come into place until the early 1900s.

Cigs are just as addictive, probably more harmful in chronic moderate use, but you can't overdose on them in an acute way. People don't just drop dead at 24 from cigarettes, but a responsible opioid user is a lot better off than a typical smoker.

Other things kill more frequently than either, but it’s about the manner you go out. Nobody is out there sucking dick for cigs, alienating all friends and family and turning homeless at age 20 over a nicotine addiction.

legalizing drugs will not solve the problem.

people are stupid AF. take a nations average IQ, half are sitting on the left side of the bell curve.

the problem lies in:
1. abysmal mental health & for profit rehab system (saw family member ASK to get off of benzos they were prescribed and was literally written off to a mental hospital, instead of just weening them off over time).

2. lack of self control and awareness. Dont te me a person has 0% control over their actions and choices

3. drugs are allowed to be smuggled in so agencies can confiscate the money involved.

You cannot stop the inflow of drugs even if they did want to, instead of profiting off of it as you describe.

And yes, people will overdose either way. But they'd overdose a hell of a lot less on prescription pharms than they do on random hotpot gunk with fent in it

Also, people should have the right to overdose and die if they want to. The spirit of this country and its founding principles were lost when chit like prohibition came into play.

Why...so that people can continue with their addictions? Perhaps rehabilitation that actually works, not throwing a more addictive substance like methadone at them and then taking it away for no good reason with no real solution to helping their withdrawals should be looked at.

My aunt had to lock my cousin in the house and be with her everyday for a week while she puked shivered and cried to finally get her clean. Then - they moved away from the scumbag dealers and trash boyfriend to put her into a positive new clean environment where she could flourish.

Keeping people doped up, stupid, and allowing them to do whatever they want even if it's horrible for them just because TRYING to fix a problem is terrible and stupid.

That can't possibly be the case now as I'm in the same boat but the Doctor is forcing me to do the latter. I would rather not as the withdrawal symptoms are worse than opiates.

Is the opioid crisis China's revenge?

Didn't the anglo British forced opioids into China and it fked them up? Isn't this kind of the same thing?

Why? Because the government doesn't own individuals, you aren't a cog in a system to produce GDP for the ownership class, and self-determination is a basic tenet of enlightenment philosophy that should be cherished in a western nation founded on those beautiful, superior principles.

When somebody with chronic pain for example doesn't have the choice to pick what regimen of treatment is optimal for their own lifestyle, it makes me want to murder people. Black markets a suboptimal correction to moral failures of prohibitionists.

The government is responsible for driving people to street dope. You can say that the docs are responsible for them engaging in the use of any sort of substance, but the vast majority would never take that filthy chit if the primary issue wasn't lack of access to safer, higher quality substances.

Well I've noticed that doctors are prescribing fewer opiates, as I recently broke my orbital and nose and they prescribed a much smaller dosage than 5 years ago when I received a huge bottle after a surgery.

But for people with chronic pain, like my family member in her 70s, it's really awful. Thankfully she has a pain management doctor and isn't resorted to just be thrown off of them and have to turn to street drugs, which she's never been exposed to in her life.

If you are an 18-24 year old white male, good luck getting any effective treatment whatsoever after a surgery. Here's some Naproxen. Maybe if you are lucky, you will get what equates to a single effective dose of ********.

All to appease scumbag politicians and lawyers.
