Online dating is actually extremely fukked up if you think about it

Imagine allowing a corporation to control your access to women.

The people you see are controlled by an algorithm calibrated not for maximum compatibility, but for maximum profit.

Even if you pay you have no guarantee the algorithm isn't just stringing you along to keep you paying for as long as possible.

Machine learning deciding your value and your social status.

Their goals are not aligned with yours. They want you to pay up, not to find a partner.

It's kind of amazing people put up with it.

Not just online dating. Social media, internet, TV. It's all mind control. Not joking. All those things ruin your mind, they are designed to beat you down so you keep consuming said product and giving more money to the elite. They laugh at us as they get richer.

Looksmaximus’s “to catch a simp series” was probably the most brutal 2020’s “blackpill” anyone will ever see. Not just the content itself, but because you can easily extrapolate it and figure out which dudes around you have to simp how hard

Offline dating is the best. Used to miss those days of online chats. When someone enters the room: "A/S/L?"

I never liked meeting someone from the internet... it was always weird... I just couldnt imagine meeting a girl on a one night stand app (tinder) and smashing. I'll stick to finding good, decent women instead through mutual friends, school, and church.

Agreed with all in the OP.

Seconding Ernie's comment, too; I feel like it's kinda like lotto tickets for men. You get shown so many options and so many opportunities to "win," but the odds are just stacked against you, even disregarding whatever female behavior in dating is these days.

Most of the apps are roughly 4 dudes to 1 chick, so the odds aren't great off the bat. Then, you take into account that there are so many fewer women on these apps despite their odds being theoretically "better." To me, it feels like a club that's a sausagefest, and a handful of women got in with free admission, but if admission wasn't free, you know damn well they wouldn't be there. Just can't be a winning field for guys.

Makes me wonder what the market of an app without corporate interest would look like. Wonder if the algorithm screws women over at all, too. They need to be kept on the app to keep men paying for memberships.

This is stupid. Sure the algorithm is set by a computer but if you put in specifics that you're looking for, you'll get matches that you're looking for. I met my wife on okcupid and two long term relationships before her. I went on first dates with probably over 100 girls during my mid 20s. The algorithm will make your matches but then it's up to you and the girl from there. The online dating site had nothing to do with it after we decided to meet for the first date.

I'm talking mostly about Tinder et al. BTW The same company owns 99% of dating sites, it's called Match Group. They own Tinder, Hinge, Match, Coffee Meets Bagel, Plenty of Fish, OKCupid, Black People Meet, Our Time, and more.

OKCupid used to be amazing but then Match group bought them up and nuked everything great about it.

Around 2017 was when it really started to turn to Chit once all the competition had been crushed or bought out.

When did you meet her? Have heard OKC used to be really good (pre-2016 I think?), but Match Group has kinda stripped it. Would also be curious to hear if anybody's used the Match app, which is supposed to be their flagship dating app at this point (and I've heard suspicions that they make OKC/Tinder/Hinge/etc. chitty to get people to pay the $50/month for Match).

If it proved anything it was that Chad doesn’t exist. The amount of men on there that looked better than me (and I’m really good looking) that were chasing and double texting a landwhale was astounding.

Meeting chick via the internet was looked at as extremely beta back in the 90s. At least with in my social circle. You were basically a desperate creep that couldn’t talk to girl irl.

Last I checked it was still allowed to go meet women IRL.

It distorts the market. A girl irl is much less likely to be receptive to your Timmy advances when she has dozens of Chads on her phone competing for her attention.

Met my wife in 2014, met my first gf in 2011 and second gf in 2013, all online. I guess those were the glory days of online dating? Obviously I have no idea what it's like after 2014.

Too much competition. Girls are choosy and most guys will bang anyone. Makes it all lopsided.

Online dating just streamlined hunting for sloots for the Chads , while the internet set ugly guys back 50 years .
In theory there should be a lot of taller and more attractive people in this next generation seeing as mostly the chads are doing all the fuking.
This has contributed to the influx of incels we see now .
You never heard that term in the 90’s , as even the average Joe was pulling sloots

Loool so much this. Isn't it funny how quickly times have changed? Even in 2009, you were considered a loser if you had to resort to online dating and most men avoided it because they knew it was really hard to get attention on those platforms anyway.
