Didn't look right at all.

They had Tom's face, more or less but the whole thing didn't work.

No. You use a program (I use Deepfacelab) to compare thousands of images of the source "character" (in this case, Tom Cruise) against a character in a target video. The software creates a "mask" which it overlays on the target character, and you blend it a bit until it's seamless. It perfectly mimics the target persons' mouth movements/facial expressions, etc. It's done with an AI model. As far as the voice goes.. some people are using AI to mimic the tone.. Some people like myself just imitate the voice (like I do Arnold Schwarzenegger well enough I don't need an AI).

Doesn't feel like video proof will become obsolete, the source will be the key. Obviously video can be trusted if someone is caught on a security cam feed and you collect the video straight from the source, and law enforcement surely already has processes in place for verifying authenticity and such


Now if random people want to believe whatever they see on the internet, that seems like their problem. Already gotta be careful interpreting what you watch when people use all sorts of editing tactics to make videos portray what they want the videos to portray

Yeah that's probably true, but I like to think those people have little bearing on life in the real world. What happens in echo chambers on the internet is very different from what I experience after stepping outside

Guess my point was just that we won't have law enforcement and other authorities doing chit because of some random video that came from who knows where, there are/will be due diligence processes
