I've been working as a tradie at a new job for 6 weeks now. All conventional methods of getting on my bosses good side have seemed to fail, including curtail my style to his desire, sequence and other micromanagements. I have taken his feedback and criticisms in stride and have attempted to be more personable by displaying an interest in his personal life/hobbies with some success. The phucker loves to talk about himself and let me know all about it, however despite that he still seems to have a stick up his ass about anything I do.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt for awhile and just thought I was learning his "style" of management. However he started citing examples of things that weren't factually true more often about my work.

Today was the first time I actually challenged him, he accused me of not doing a particular intake of certain inventory. I then stated examples of how I have consistency done inventories everyday. Then he admitted that yes I do the inventory correctly, but i did not do the inventory in the way he particular wants it done.

I'm pretty sure that maybe I have come off as too passive, in good faith and will have to continue calling him out on things and show I will do my work and not be a personal punching bag, otherwise I will be moving on sooner rather than later. I've legit never had a boss I didn't get along with like this.

1. Do exactly as he asks, get him to clarify exactly how he wants stuff done. Start with "Hey Joe, thinking about doing xyz this way (shows you have thought it out before going to him), sound good"?

2. He's a micro manager and a control freak, forget your autonomy & your ego, do things exactly how he wants it done, and clarify everything new.

3. Get a dictator app on your phone that dictates to text.

4. ASAP, document all relevant conversations or at least the key points. The app will store the conversations and the dates/times when you had them.

5. The above mostly applies if you both share a boss i.e. his boss is your manager. It's also relevant if anything went to an employment tribunal.

If I didn’t answer my phone he would be on site within 5-10 mins freaking out asking what’s going on.

I don’t answer or look at my phone while I’m being productive. Guess that’s a bad thing

Whenever I had a bitch ass breathing down my neck, I would over communicate to a very annoying degree. Implement a new "inventory control process" and make him sign off on every single task. Maybe a scorecard.

Arrange meetings with your boss and his boss to review progress. Just be a piss ant until you can find a new job or he quits his MOGGING act.

I know exactly what you mean...there’s only a few tried and true methods of handling this. The first method involves sleeping with his wife. You have to swallow your pride here...and make sure she swallows yours. Now, if she’s an old bloatlord, you can see if he has a daughter. That’s your next option. Either way, you need to express dominance by showing him your alpha enough to take away what he thinks belongs to him. Jobs and titles are of human creation and can be wielded by the simplest of fools. But women...you take that away and it shows that none of that means anything. It shows that if society broke down tomorrow and it was Thunderdome, you’re a true leader of the pack.

Your second option is to pretend your ghey...unless you are, then this will be relatively easy. Make advances towards him, but nothing too fast. Just small things like buying his lunch, texting him after work about how nice he looked today or smelled, or gift him a pair of your old boxers with a card. If he gets upset or infuriated with this, threaten to go to HR and say you feel sechxually manipulated by your boss. Or if he’s not in to it, claim he’s a homophobe and watch him sweat it out. On the flip side, if he’s in to it, I can guarantee you he will be less ill in the office as he takes out his frustrations on you in the bedroom.
