I figured it might be interesting to have a thread that deals with being prepared for certain situations like the storm that happened in Texas recently.
Stuff like having a source of heat, fuel, clean water and food with a long shelf life.

Stuff like bushcraft and homesteading is very interesting too.
I will post some interesting stuff as I come across it. Feel free to do the same.

I'm in. I am still learning a lot of these skills, and it takes time, but everyone should just start. srs. even if someone lives in an apartment you can grow basic veggies and plans in buckets on your balcony. You can go learn skills by offering to help out local farmers on the weekend for free just learn (and you might score some milk or eggs for free).

One idea I always wondered about wascompound interest.Everyone is so focused on compound interest, the markets, the numbers, etc. Yet there is no physical guarantee of anything in the future, and compound interest isn't just numbers.

Look at it this way. Buying a couple chickens is better compound interest that any account. Laying hens give you eggs. Eggs feed you. You can also buy specific breeds of roosters and hens and you can incubate the eggs. What does that give you? More chickens. More chickens = more eggs. More eggs equals more food, and it also means.....more chickens. Then guess what? You can sell your eggs or chicklets for extra money. Then with that money you can buy a couple baby goats. Now you have fresh goat milk and lawn mowers and weed killers. Guess what? Goats can get pregnant too and make more baby goats. Next thing you know you now have a fully functional ability to feed yourself, create a new stream of income, and even help out family, friends, and neighbors buy feeding them good natural foods (for free to give back). Then you can get meat birds lol. You can go on and on. Have enough land? 2 cows. A cow will basically give you 2 gallons per milking and you milk them twice a day. That's 4 gallons a day per cow. You can make all your creams, butters, ghees, ice cream and more with that. Plus a plethora of milk and furthering your income stream. You don't think food is in demand? People would rather pay a similar price for all natural whole foods than buy from grocery stores if they can.

Great post. I feel the same way. I have a friend who lives in a large, densely populated city. The person has a small backyard and has a number of chickens and ducks there. They provide eggs year round and they don't require a lot of care once the coops are set up. Keep a rooster there too and it'll keep cats and other unwanted animals away from them.

I think anyone interested in bushcraft should get the SAS pocket book, identification guides of their local animal tracks, plants, mushrooms, and most importantly, spend a lot of time in the woods with them.
