Sure, but it doesn’t need to be a State function. If the State were responsible for providing food, everyone would also say we couldn’t just leave something as essential as eating up to the private sector. How would the poor eat? Only the rich would get the healthy food. Etc.

The sales tax is supposed to be to retailers not to consumers.

The retailer just passes on the taxes to the consumer but they do not have to.

This is what always happens when poor people try to stick it to the rich, they just end up sticking themselves lol. Your government is not taxing you. The rich are taxing you.

All the taxing entities want to get a piece of you.

IMO it would be nice if we just had a single form of taxation- probably income tax. The federal government, state government, and local government would all take a bite out of you for certain.

But at least then there would be some transparency as to how much tax you pay.

Whatever your net ended up being you could feel secure that you had that amount available for your own use.

It's time for taxes to go in the other direction. They have gone up in various forms since inception. We have gotten to the point where roads, infrastructure, military, etc.. are all essentially built. Any new taxes are just going towards SJW programs and bloated government staff.

Sales tax is about the only way to get illegals to pay some form of tax.

When they go for their 18 packs of Modelos they are going to pay tax just like anyone else.

I mean they get paid cash and they take all the free government services they can, at least sales tax ensures they kick in something.

Income tax is the biggest waste. How much money is spent each year trying to figure out how much tax is to be paid?

There's one group of people paid huge salaries to find ways to not pay tax and an opposing group of people paid massive salaries to to make people pay tax

Don't forget that on top of the sales tax OP paid when he bought the fridge with money that was also taxed as soon as he earned it, he'll also need to report the money from the sale of the fridge as income and pay tax on that as well.
