Unlimited PTO is a scam
Unlimited my ass
You need permission from HR and boss for any PTO and with justifiable reasons.
It just looks bad on you to take a PTO when everyone else on your team is grinding.
I noticed that people take LESS vacation if they have 'unlimited PTO'.

A well known tactic used by tech companies, people feel pressured so they take even less leave

If I had unlimited PTO, I would never work.
If they denied my requests then I wouldn’t truly have “unlimited” PTO, would I?
Companies that pull this chit can fuk off.

Its a scam so they don't have to accrue vacation and pay it out upon you quitting/getting terminated. They don't want that liability on their books and "unlimited PTO" removes it.

I’ve taken 9, 10 hour days off in six months at my new job. Company is cool with it.

My company considered having work your own hours with unlimited PTO. That is, you come in when you want, when you are done for the day, you leave and take PTO as you please. Sounded like a really great way to track the 'hard workers' who are slaves to the company and trim the fat everywhere else.

I have unlimited PTO and sick.
Vacation policy is no questions asked approval up to 160 hours otherwise they to have write a justification to HR why they're denying.
Past 160 it goes to higher level management to review
Sick is no questions asked ever except they get annoyed if you call out sick when it's snowing for some reason.
It's a pretty good deal to me.

I accrue a rolling four weeks a year and then it stops accruing when I reach 160 hours. My company's policy is they intentionally stop accruing in an effort to encourage people to take their vacation. It's pretty nice, everyone is very accepting of using your vacation days. I can see why the unlimited PTO would be the exact opposite, sounds like a chit work environment srs

The local police department pays out total sick time accrued when retiring. I have seen a few times when people retire after 20+ years they get a HUGE payout. This is after rarely if ever calling off but it's still crazy.
Note - This isn't being anti-police, I'm simply pointing out that it is a pretty sweet deal.
