Serious tips on moving to NOLA

Got a job offer for PICU in New Orleans which I'll be taking. Its a much better position than I have now with a decent signing bonus

Start date is in mid June

Ive been eyeing the Central Business District/Warehouse District, been reading everything I need is close by and theres low crime in the area

Different apartments are 1k and change to 1.4k for a studio

I'll need a place with a garage/parking

So far I've been looking at - Gravier Place Apartments - 200 Carondelet

Apartments like those in the area

Anything I need to look out for? Areas that I must avoid?

COX internet has the 50mbps for $30 a month so I'll prob do that

Any tips on apartment hunting? Never done this before

You going to work at Children’s? I would stay away from proper downtown and look more uptown area. Downtown sucks and the French quarter went to hell a long time ago

A good friend of mine lived there for a few years. Fun place to visit and party, but I honestly couldn't really see myself enjoying living there. Especially if you're coming from Miami, although different strokes for different folks.

My contract is one and a half years, so after that I'll have the experience I need to move anywhere else I want.

This is what worries me, but I've read CBD and warehouse/french quarter are much better safety wise than the rest of New Orleans.

What surrounding area do you recommend? I'd like to live in the city to enjoy that urban lifestyle I've never had

I'll be working in the Jefferson area of New Orleans

Narrowing it down to the Lower Garden District and Central Business District

Considering - Delaneaux or The Paramount at South Market

Anyone have any experience in these areas or apartments?

I really like the St. Charles st area... Warehouse district etc. The area Redfish suggested is nice too. I would also consider metairie because there's lots of nice houses for rent there as well. depending on what area you move to i would see if there are any fiber internet options though, though im pretty sure Cox has a contract with most apartments/condos

Definitely live uptown if single, in Convington/Metarie if not. The city itself is a chithole, smells, tons of homeless, roads are trash, cops give no fukks. And the whole city smells. Srs. I love visiting but, even though I’ve had offers of 100k more to move there, just can’t live there. Srs.

Yup I looked at the Julia as well, but when you include the OVERPRICED INSANE parking it balloons to near 2k

Cox gives a free month at a bunch of apartments. But i'll prob just do their 50mbps for $40 a month for 1 year contract. Maybe even 25mbps

My exact thoughts well, I'm single and don't have a desire to live in a suburb again after living my whole life in one and knowing how chitty it is to meet people and do fun stuff. Although rent is cheaper, just not worth saving a few extra hundred to continue a mundane life

Also saw those suburbs are mostly retirees
