Hank Azaria says he feels the need to apologize to 'every single Indian person in this country' for voicing Apu in The Simpsons.

In an interview with the Armchair Expert podcast, Azaria has said the character show had contributed to 'structural racism' and that he hadn't known any better during the nearly 30 years he voiced the character.





funny thing is dude looks Indian...he shoulda just said he was part indian and its OK for him to do that voice. Oh btw...its called acting....like what's next British people apologizing for playing american characters?

True story here. A close friend of mine at work is 100% Indian and also a diehard Simpsons fan. He is not the least bit offended by Apu. He's actually is appalled that Apu is leaving.

It's crazy, white characters on simpsons are portrayed in a way worse light than apu. I mean homer is disgusting, a raging alcoholic and has an iq of a chimp. Look at Moe, the police chief, etc.

I think hank voiced at least a couple of the white trash characters.. is he going to apologize for that too?

I never acknowledged race within the simpsons. Maybe it's because they're yellow and don't really look like real humans or the fact it's a cartoon, but not once did I ever even think about Apu's race.
