My money is on the US and her huge stategic bombing reserve, plus nuclear weapons.

That’s what Patton wanted to do after the war but he was taken out.

There was a German general that pleaded with him and said “If you re-arm my men, we’ll go kill them.” But that didn’t happen.

I gotta check this out. Ive heard that some high ranking allied commanders wanted to do this but they were over ruled.

US for sure, a big part of that would probably be their much better situation in the air vs the Russians.

Not counting nukes obviously, I think they used the only two bombs they had on Japan but I assume they would have made a few more pretty quickly in an emergency like war with Russia.
Would kick em in the nuts

Ever since WWII, Russia has been all bark, no bite. They’re flexing non-stop, 24/7. Their economy is sh!t and has been that way for a long time. They have a lot of land, oil, and nukes. Not much else. I worry way more about China than I do about Russia.

Would never have happened, there was no public appetite for extending the war one day longer than needed plus the US and UK had spent a lot of time and money spreading propaganda that the Russians were our trustworthy allies and that "Uncle Joe" Stalin was a good leader and not a paranoid butcher.

I guess that US could have "won" depending on what that means exactly and what the war goals were. Would have needed to nuke cities and army fronts to break the Soviets, because fighting that land army would have made the previous fronts look like a stroll on the beach.

My money would be on US also, but via bombing and nuking. No land army. Air strikes have always been US military's strength.

US since we could've just dropped the sun on them plus Russia already suffered an insane amount of casualties from Germany at that point

US. Russia was just barely able to pull an edge over the Germans due to US lending massive amounts of equipment.

Patton overstepped his appointment. Tribe in charge wanted America vs Russia. They financed both sides!

At the start of the war, Russia easily.

At the end, US - they had the nukes, and Russia's population was severely depleted since they had heavy casualties fighting off the Nazis.

There's a reason why the gameplan for attacking the USSR was titled Operation Unthinkable.

Neither side had ANY desire for more war. British units sent to enforce the status quo in India were pretty much in a state of mutiny in 1945 because they all just wanted to go home. If US or British forces were asked to attack the Soviets, they would 100% mutiny, and workers at home would pry go on strike. Stalin could enforce discipline in the ranks a little more severely, but Red Army high command (Stavka) would probably attempt to coup him if they didn't agree with the gameplan.

If you ignore morale and just set both sides to fight each other like mindless automatons in an RTS game, the Western Allies (basically just the US, because British forces in Europe were down to one last field army) would pry win by sheer force of body count and nukes. The Red Army was peaking in 1945 but didn't have a lot of reserve manpower left in the tank; by total war standards the US still had a bunch of meat left to put in the grinder.

The US would still take probably 5 million deaths doing it - Germany lost 4 million troops on the Eastern Front, and the US isn't getting off much easier. That'd be a 50x increase in the deaths they took in Europe from D-Day onward....that's the difference between cleaning up the C team of an already broken army with 80% of its attention diverted elsewhere and going straight at the most powerful ground army ever built.

What would initially happen, in a war that could never happen, is the Soviet tank armies would overwhelm the smaller, thinly stretched, fairly inexperienced American army, drive them all the way back to the coast, and then it would just be a grim years-long war of attrition as the Americans slowly nuked their way end-to-end across Europe from Brest all the way to Moscow. Assuming both nations fight like NPCs willing to go literally to extinction, there were just more Americans left to be killed than Russians and nukes would allow the Americans to kill them faster.

I would take a wild-ass guess that it would take 50-100 nukes to defeat the Red Army. You want unthinkable? That's pretty fukking unthinkable.
