Well I do not want to support her lazy ass - she can go rent a room for that price. cuz of covid I cant up the rent but I can evict then set it at 1050/mth for new comer. Do you think this is to harsh? I'm basically losing 600/mth with her there.

I never really understood the misc's general mentality on rental pricing for relatives. We've had similar discussions before about what would be fair rental pricing for a gf/bf moving in with you in a home you owned. Like 75%+ of miscers think you should give heavy discounts to people in these types of situations.

That's not at all how I view it. *A* discount of some sort? Yes, probably. But letting someone have a discount of 50% - 60% permanently just because they're related to you? That's total bs, imo. If their entire lifestyle would go down a couple tier without you offering them huge discounts you wouldn't give to anyone else, then that's called freeloading.

If I were OP I'd tell her that her $450 /mo for a $1,050 rental unit won't work going forward, give her two more months of the $450 payments to figure out how she could afford a more fair price, and offer her a 10% discount of $945 /mo rent starting on the third month after the heads up. If she didn't like that, I'd tell her to kick rocks. You're not obligated to completely enable a lazy relative living a cozy lifestyle just because they're related to you. It's not like she'd ever do that (even if she could) for OP, lol.

Of course OP is a troll. But do you really think that someone should be expected to give a relative a rental discount of close to 60% indefinitely? Inherited or not, there are still costs associated with maintaining (basic maintenance costs, property taxes, etc.) a rental property. A discount of over 50% seems pretty steep to me. It would be a lot less ridiculous if it were more like 25% or something.

I mean, I get it. Some posters here seem hung up on the fact that the troll hypothetical of the OP supposedly involves a sibling who is "too disabled to work", so they think such a situation warrants indefinite pity rent pricing north of 50% less than what he'd be charging anyone else. Again, I have to point this out - when push comes to shove, most people wouldn't do that sort of favor to that extent (50%+ rent discount) for the other person if the roles were reversed. Wait why did you inherit your mom's rental all by yourself? Shouldn't a dead parent's things be distributed evenly among their kids? YOu should give half of those rental units to your sister you greedy bastard.
