Commuters: how do you justify it to yourself?
Imagine having to commute.
Even if it's "just" an hour each way, that's 10 hours a week
40 hours a month
480 hours a year
Unpaid, full of rage, enslaved.

Agreed. On the absolute worst of days I can get to work (driveway to parking lot) in 9 minutes. On a perfect day it's 6 minutes. Can't imagine (hypothetically) spending more than about 20 minutes going to/from work every day...

I used to do 50mins am (start drive at 5:35) and 60-75 mins in drive home. Accidents and fridays were guaranteed hour and 20 mins or more.
Fcking smh I could never go back to doing that.
Bought a home 10 mins from the office. But if they don’t allow full remote I’ll look for a remote job in the future.

I've been working remote for many years now, way before covid. I've turned down multiple jobs at 30-50K higher salary because of the no remote portion of the job.
It's just so exhausting having to wake up 2 hours earlier than you would need to if you were remote, wear all that professional white collar clothes, sit in traffic, acting professional in-person also takes a lot of energy and is just exhausting to me.
Then when you get back you're to tired to do anything let alone get a workout in most of the time.

yep was doing 5 days in the office about 2 and half hours lost commuting each day
due to covid we were asked to WFH which has been lit but now managers want us back to justify their positions
when I tell the managers we can do exactly everything the same from home instead of working I just get a lot of jibberish um yeah uhh
I sit here with so much rage because I feel like I was lied to by society and mainly my dad who told me this is what you need to do in life , work like a slave 9-5 until retirement.
I got a huge crypto bag and I think I might make it this time

Im way more productive remote as I chit chat less with co workers and am pretty much isolated and get stuff done.
Happier and more energy, thus I am more likely to stay for a long time, reducing turnover for the company.
Less office space and items they have to pay for.
The only reason a computer based job would ever be 100% on site is being the management is just backwards/old school boomers or simply don't trust the employee.

I don’t mind commuting. Had one job requiring 1-2 hrs each way depending on traffic, listened to books, podcasts, etc. or read if I had to take the train/subway in. Sure, was tired by end of the week but didn’t find it too bad.

Making over 100k and it takes me 12 min to get to work. I would never work a job that was 20+ even if it paid a decent amount more SRS. Have had lots of coworkers over the years that drive 1 hour or more one way. All backroads for me. Friend has to take the highway and I swear his windshield gets cracked by semis kicking up rock every other week. Nothxjeff

I used to do an hour commute each way, along with a job that was like 60-65 hours per week and super stressful. Definitely the worst period of my life.
Honestly though, after working from home for like 4 years now, I wouldn't mind a 10-15 minute commute. Sometimes my job blends my personal life and work too much, and I wish I could separate the two a little more. Although sitting in traffic or driving in a snowstorm is miserable, I wouldn't mind 15-30 minutes each day to clear my head.

Before we went into work-from-home pandemic mode, my daily commute was only 15 minutes each way, and that's only if I was driving casually.
Although nowadays, my commute is however long it takes for me to walk from my bedroom to my home office.
My wife, on the other hand, has a 50 minute commute each way. Though, this is her first real job out of college and she's just using it as a stepping stone. In a few more months, she's gonna start putting in applications for closer jobs.
She's using my car to commute now, though. She drives a 2005 Toyota Highlander, and I forgot how much she said she paid for gas before gas prices started going up but I remember it being some insane number. I drive a 2015 Mazda 3 and I've been able to get up to 40mpg in that thing. With gas prices going full retard, makes more sense for her to use my car. tho ... inb4 she rear ends somebody or drives it off the road...

Low/no commute is one of the best upgrades you can make to your life. Went from an hour one way to less than ten minutes, best decision ever.
I would rather make far less money than waste my life commuting an hour plus.
