My only critique of black people is they try too hard to be/look cool

It's like what Woody Harrelson said in 'White Man Can't Jump' - "...a black man wants to look good first win second."

True "coolness" is effortless, easy, subtle. Being able to laugh at yourself, to not take yourself too seriously. Not clout-chasing, roasting, or "clowning" on someone.

I understand all races try to look cool, but my black brethren seem to care more about it than others. Wannabe black POCs and whites are a close second.

It's more of a culture thing that originates from the hip hop community. It's influenced all aspects of the dominant American culture. Flaunting and boasting your riches - even if it's all a lie - fake chains, bling and all.

I guess social media amped it up to a historic level.

To be quite honest, I'm more of a "hip to be square" type.

Like Chris Rock said White people been to the moon and sheit, black people are glad when they get out of poverty so they show off their car and Rolex as if anyone actually gives a sheit.

I hope this isn't interpreted as a racist thread. I was watching 'White Man Can't Jump' the other night and that quote stuck with me. Coolness seems to be more important to blacks than others

Might be a socio-economic thing, but then again, it might not. Immigrants are usually very square, or "corny." Maybe it's just the language/cultural barrier though. Usually the 2nd and 3rd generations of immigrants are more westernized - more "normal."
