Why am I so miserable/depressed? (srs)

Reaching out here, but i've been feeling miserable/depressed for a long time now.

work/career - feel apathetic, don't really care about doing better. Do the bare min.

girls/dating - same as above, last time i was laid was 4 months ago with some ugly girl. wasn't a good experience. lost interest in girls (no homo), just don't care.

gym - feels boring/chore / not even fun.

friends/social - caught up with some buddies last week for drinks. Felt apathetic/numb didn't feel happier being with them.

i'm just in a LDAR mode.

a lot of little things you’re probably doing wrong or you could improve that will make a big difference

eat correctly

Stop drinking alcohol for a little bit, or at least minimize it

Get on a proper sleep schedule

supplement vitamin D3 (I swear by it)

Get outside regularly in nature

Workout every single day

If you don’t feel pretty good doing this then there’s something wrong with you (ded fkn Srs)

I think people forget we just came out of the worst year of most peoples lives, you included.

Try to think about why you feel depressed and LDAR. Can you think of anything that happened to you that might make you feel that way? Srs btw

You gotta see the beauty of life. It's easy to get caught up in the ugliness. Decide how you want to go though your one short life. It's up to you and your state of mind.

I'm not sure. Maybe i'm longing for the past too much, I often find myself thinking back 2-3 years ago when my life was better.

what about your sleep, and what do you do in your free time?

also you mentioned longing for the past -- depression can often be focusing on the past, what you've "lost", what you're missing; whereas anxiety is worrying about the future. sounds like you're thinking about things that aren't in your control. try just focusing on the things you can control

if you're a reader, check out a book on stoicism. "The Daily Stoic" is pretty good, it's an interesting way of thinking.

if you're not a reader, try reading. i have increased my reading volume and frequency quite a bit over the past couple of years and it also has a very good effect on my mood, concentration, thinking, etc. (ded fkn Srs)

Most people feel that way, it’s called Nostalgia. Rosy-colored glasses type of deal, know what I mean?

Try to take care of yourself as if you were taking care of someone that you actually loved and cared for. For example, if you had a really good friend or brother than depended on you, what would you recommend they do in their life? How would you try to help them? Now imagine that that person is YOU.

Think of yourself as someone worth taking care of.

Go camping in the woods and do shrooms/peyote. I'm being 100% srs. All your "problems" will seem petty once you see the bigger picture bro.

Thank you I will have a look at this.

Yea, I think about the past a lot. Even just 2-3 years ago I look back with rose coloured glasses, I had a better physqiue, was dating a hot girl, had more friends, a better job. i know this is just rose coloured glasses however, i also had issues then I just remember the good things.

Nah it doesn’t sound hippy at all. Clinically speaking, lots of depressed people have found life-changing therapeutic experiences from even a single dose of psilocybin. Many rate it among the most important experiences of their life. It’s also been shown to be efficacious in reducing addictions.

There’s a lot of hippy chit out there to explain why this might be the case, but there’s something there for sure.

I don’t particularly find the concept of myself dying and becoming dirt to be comforting so I guess I need to do shrooms at some point.

My personal rationalization of my mortality is that either I was always a failure and at least I’ll die someday, or that I am simply a biological machine and my consciousness is an artificial construct or “artifact” that is generated post hoc by my brain. In other words I am not a person, I am something that deluded itself into believing I am a person. So it’s not so bad when I die. It might even be a relief.

I think it's really cool how all our energy/matter will be turned into something else, but at the same time another, different kind of element in the universe . In a way we never really die, only our mind goes to another plane/dimension/etc

That would certainly be nice if it happens to be the case! Srs. I guess that’s what you gleaned from your experience. Hopefully you’re right
