What does the 'dark' in tall, dark, and handsome mean?

I'd imagine it means someone fairly tanned, bronze-like at the very least. Someone who is outside often rather than some vampire looking mofo.
Based on all the movies/tv shows I've seen in my life where they used that expression. Could be talking about brown/black dudes though who really knows.
That's the beauty of expressions, they can be used in many ways.

Every ethnic, mixed, and even some black men all want it to mean dark features but it really just means dark hair with natural olive skin tone.

Prime examples are actual Italian men like early seasons of Matt Le Blanc from Friends

True, but I think my husband is very handsome and he has the darkest brown eyes. My little one also has super dark eyes and I think her eyes are beautiful.
Maybe because I have green eyes and my family has green or blue, it’s just different for me. I dunno lol.
