Misc BBQ brahs, I need some advice. BBQ restoration
I’m trying to fix up this bbq (60 years old). I’m not really sure what to do apart from cleaning/painting/slapping on new grills/grates. It looks like it has a smoker, but I have no idea what the other compartments are for. Storage? It’s in chit shape right now.
Also, there’s nothing in the smoking compartment or the space above it. The previous grate was build into the stone. Is there some kind of free-standing grill/grate I can put there?

Unless you plan to cook for 50-100+ people on a regular basis, it's just going to be a big inefficient waste of your time and money to fix it up OP.
Looks like coals in the middle, offset smoker functionality. Unless you're going to smoke a grip of briskets and pork butts at the same time at great expense, it's just not going to be worth it.

Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way but, in 20 years if you're still here postin' in hhhnnnggg threads, beggin' for mod reps, and braggin' about whales you harpooned from POF, I'll f'in kill ya. That's not a threat, that's a fact, I'll f'in kill ya. You got somethin' none of us have, and you don't owe it to yourself man, you owe it to me. Cuz tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be red, and I'll still be a socially awkward/FA. And that's all right.

Looks like a wood oven not a smoker, build fire in bottom bake in top.
Right slots are for wood storage and tools
For the grill, Looks like possibly build a fire in bottom empty then shovel coals to under grill with the grill section
