GTFIH if you've ever had a diabetic dog (picky eater) (reps)
Short back story: have a 12 (13 in July, knock on wood) year old mutt who was diagnosed with diabetes in February. Looking back, he was probably showing symptoms as early as last December but didn't really find out until he crashed hard in February. He spent 2 nights in vet hospital on an insulin drip. Our vet after was great and we had him in once or twice a week to dial in his insulin dose. It took about a month to get that settled, then became ever more picky with his food. His diet has consisted of raw meat, grilled/pan fried meat, eggs, and wet dog food after diagnosis. Last week he ended up crashing hard again and spent another 2 nights on an insulin drip. We went to a different emergency vet and they prescribed a different type of insulin. Since the last hospital stay and slightly before, the range of foods he's been willing to eat has become narrower. He's hungry and lets us know, but it is always a crapshoot what he's hungry for. Any tips dealing with a hungry, picky, diabetic dog?
Cliffs:
-older dog diagnosed w/diabetes
-hungry but is a picky eater
-skipping meals usually ends up setting him back
