Montana cutting off unemployment benefits starting in June due to lack of workers

"After June 27, Montana will stop giving recipients of jobless aid the additional $300 per week offered through Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.

Montana will instead use funds from the March relief bill to give $1,200 bonuses to people who had an active unemployment claim as of May 4, accept a job offer and complete at least four weeks of paid work.

“Montana is open for business again, but I hear from too many employers throughout our state who can’t find workers,” Gianforte said, arguing that “nearly every sector in our economy faces a labor shortage.”

Woah Woah Woah, but the liberals on this board told me that if you give people free money they will continue working regardless, yet we are experiencing a huge shortage of works because the salary they take home is only a little more than the amount of their unemployment? Those lower paid jobs are going away soon enough tbh. '08 eliminated a bunch that will never come back, and we're going to see after '20 that there will be a lot of service sector jobs that will never come back. After the coming recession (did you see the stock market sell-off today happening at ahintof interest rate increases?), it will be more still. Automation is a frog boil.

Right now, a weird moment in a weird event of history has increased demand for bottom end wagies (basically a reopening melt-up occurring right after Rona and right before a recession or hyperinflation), but that's going to be transient. The US unemployment rate isn't even that high...higher than usual yes.

But unemployment rate is 6%, normal unemployment rate is 4-5%

But Ive heard of multiple instances of this (lack of workers).
