Fuk ohp, I'm not doing it anymore
I randomly struggle with serious lightheadedness / blacking out with ohp. This never occurs on any other lifts.
I can go weeks with nothing then all of a sudden one day I'll feel light headed from the very first warm up set.
This chit happens the moment I unrack the bar, and I can't figure out why.
I have fainted for a second or two on more than one occasion. Either I've been able to rerack before I go under, or the bar falls on the safeties and I fall on the floor. Worst feeling in the world as you come to, rapid breathing and your head pounding.
Not worth fukking with it anymore. I think it's a blood pressure thing but really I don't think it's worth this.
Been practicing with one hand dB push press this session and i might stick with these

Is the bar against your neck in the rack position?

yeah i have that happen occasionally. i think it's from sitting on the bench in the cage, then rapidly standing up to unrack and do set. if i stay standing inbetween sets its lessened.
Lifts:

Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2

You either have the bar in a position to cut off blow flow or some type of undiagnosed cardiac issue. I'd get checked out brah. Ded srs.

Bar is not on my neck brahs and I never feel it during front squats where the bar is actually touching my neck
I do them standing by the way, and my feeling is that it is something that is triggered. For example if there is something off in my set up, I will immediately feel light ended and have to rerack. This makes the exercise so temperamental and difficult

I get lightheadedness from time to time, same with deadlifts, but only for like a split second, never came close to crashing down on the floor though. I don't think it's really that uncommon.
been doing it for years and haven't died yet so there's that
if you're doing it for primarily shoulder development it's far from necessary, but you can set safeties just below your chest if possible to catch the bar. but sounds like it's pretty bad for you.
Only thing I can say is take really deep breaths, and don't hold your breath for too long.

DB or machine press crew if all benches are taken.
Apart from a fixed arm path which might be worse for you and some slight core there really is no tangible benefit in my eyes. It's not a required lift for anything.
Just lol at the "it looks alpha" crew. I've never seen an OHP that blows my mind while also maintaining a straight and strong back.
Lift to look sexy crew though.

Ohp is a goat exercise. Are you holding your breath. I’d have a doc check your blood pressure.
I once did a set too heavy and my neck was sore for a week.

You need to be deadlifting if you're doing OHP. You can't progress much if you have a weak core.
I would strongly suggest suicide grip + microloading, it's one of my favorite exercises

Im also surrounded by pretty poor lifters as well lol, you dont see many strong people here, so i lack that competition drive as well. Never done proper strenght training.

I've never had anything like the symptoms that ohp occasionally provokes at any other point in my life. I've felt a little light headed after a 500lb dl before, but nothing like the sudden onset effects that sometimes happen during ohp.
It has to be something technique / body positioning related but I just don't have the motivation or the confidence in the movement anymore to spend any more energy trying to figure it out.

Standing OHP is a meme exercise to be honest
You're limited by how much weight you can use by your core/flexibility, so for shoulder growth it's subpar
It has a higher potential for injury
So you have an exercise that's literally the worst of both worlds
Do seated DB or, even better if you're actually strong, seated machine shoulder press. You can actually take your shoulders to at or near failure. Leave the OHP for the fat 5/3/1ers or SSers that put on a belt and wear their romaleos to OHP 155 for 5 reps
You should be focusing more on side raises and rear delt flies for shoulder growth anyway

after two should surgeries from doing OHP, behind the neck pull-downs, dips and other stupid arm movements... I don't do any of that chit no more. from my MANY months of PT, through various trainers and two surgeons, they all gave me the same advice. those movements are hell on your ligaments/joints. if ya wanna do it for bodybuilding comps or some olympic lift competition chit, sure... but it won't last long before you're either in PT or surgery. Our arms weren't made to move that way and repetitive load movements like that wear your joints out.
however bros, at the end of the day, it's just advice and it ya wanna fuk yo body up for gains, now you know the price.

Last Saturday I did them and felt this weird pinch in my neck that went to my arm and made it go limp for like half a second. Weird ass feeling and also quitting OHP
