You get to pick one small arm from world war 2 for self-defense;

Rules:

-For home defense

-No modern self-defense ammo, just more or less standard FMJ ammo that was used in the war (no hollow points due to Geneva convention or something like that).

-Can be fully automatic/whatever it was at the time.

-Try to consider over-penetration, neighbors, etc.

-The weapon and all the ammo is unlimited and free.

-Still have to follow self-defense laws

I think I would choose the MP40. It's one of the lightest SMGs, very little recoil, quite short with the stock folded, and is 9mm if you're into that. Most of the rest are either too heavy, too long, both, or shoot a less than ideal caliber. PPS-43 would be great except for the round. M1 carbine too, but semi-auto, and only 15 rounds.

Also the Italian Beretta Model 38 but it's an absolute beast.

Remember this isn't for combat, but self-defense.

M3 grease gun

Shorter than the thompson, folding stock, slower rate of fire so a mag would last longer, .45 > 9mm, and best of all it isn't a nazi gun

M1 Garand just for the PING after you've dropped the whole load into the intruder then bayoneted to finish.

Walther PPK.

I own a West German made PPK, its realiable af, and super easy for concealed carry.

But if its for home defense would choose a Grease Gun or a MP40.
