MLM promises guaranteed returns. Things like 50% - 300% returns which is phucking impossible by conventional investments. Crypto does not but implies it though.

I've had plenty of cryptocurrency companies as clients for work. I've even been paid in cryptocurrency for some projects. To tell the truth, a lot of tokens are fraudulent or money laundering schemes. Even the legitimate projects are subject to unregulated pump and dump launches and obscene market manipulation.
The actual billionaires in the cryptocurrency space are the people who own the exchanges, collecting a commission on every single trade and withdrawal. Same with retail brokers in standard financial markets, most people who try and trade actively will lose.
The reason they talk like scam artists is because they often have active holdings and want other people to buy and push the price up. Everyone wants to manipulate the market and get rich because there are no financial regulations that prevent it from happening.
Saying all this, the technology actually works and is legitimately useful. Same with any other financial market. However, the retail side of trading and investing is often fraught with fraudsters and liars in every sector.
