Question for Miscers outside of the united states

I seem to recall hearing some time ago that most other countries work a 4 days on 3 days off schedule

Hear it's 5 on 2 off unless you work 12 HR shifts. But I recall reading most other countries it's mandatory 4 on 3 off. Any truth to that?

we work 5/2 in France; 35hrs/week.
