1 in 4 graduate/professional students are virgins as of 2020

Read about this so I wanted to check for myself. From the American College Health Association, a survey of over 4000 graduate/professional students in Fall 2020. Link at bottom, go to page 10

Highlights
-Mean age was 28, median age was 26
-On average, 24.7% of medical/dental/law/masters/PhD/etc. students had never had sex in their lives
-Slight disparity between men and women; with23.1% of women and 27.5% of men being virgins
-Of those who had sex in the last 12 months, 85% had 1 partner

Holy chit I thought I was a late bloomer, losing it at 21 after being a video game addicted shut-in all throughout high school. I find it mind-boggling that 1 in 4 med/dental/law/PhD students haven't had sex once. You have a class of 80? 20 of them are virgins. Not shaming them, and grad students are probably more focused on academics than most, but that's still way higher than I expected. I know of at least a few virgins in my class, and they're not bad looking at all. Just said they had always focused on school, don't really know how to date, and don't want to lose it to a hookup

How is it legitimately possible for a woman to be a virgin unless she literally turns down all offers and is waiting for marriage? Even ugly girls can get a 6/10 guy that generally has hit chit together but needs a slumpbuster. The 25%+ grad student male being virgin thing doesn't surprise me though. They're usually dudes who put their head down studying to "get that dream job" and then will realize their grave mistake once they get out in the real world and figure out that their parents were wrong about your whole life being set once you have a high-paying career.

Lol the friend I'm talking about is an 8/10, cute, extroverted, loves going out to clubs, all that. But has never gotten laid or had a boyfriend even though she wants one. It is 100% her fault and her asinine expectations. She doesn't want to lose it to a hookup (understandable), but she's only attracted to your standard Chads and expects them to do all of the initiating, plan all of the dates, show no interest in any other girls, keep wanting to hang out with her when she won't hookup.... so they all eventually lose interest.

Other chicks I know are just really introverted and want to lose it to an SO. And in a hook-up culture where sex comes before a relationship, it often doesn't happen.

But the 25% figure still blows my mind. I find it hard to believe, but numbers don't lie.

You saying "what's the point?" to a guy losing it to a hooker is the exact same thing as a girl losing it to a Tinder hookup. They both don't get what they want in the end. The guy wants validation from having a hot girl voluntarily want to sleep with him, that doesn't happen with a hooker. The girl wants the guy she's sleeping with to care about her and not bounce the day after, that doesn't happen with a Tinder hookup.

Plenty of girls that hookup regularly but IME most of them at least want their "first" to be with an SO, especially if they've waited til their twenties.

Same in dental school. Most of my classmates are outgoing and aesthetic. I bet it’s way different in most science PhD programs though, especially physics or computer science. A lot of the science PhD students I know didn’t have the social skills to get into healthcare
