is sales a good way to get rich? (srs)

so I always see openings for sales positions...

they say they will train you, you don't need a degree, or any kind of qualifications...

they just hype up the personality needed, the drive, say that you can get uncapped commissions...

seems too good to be true, no? if it was that easy, wouldn't everyone be a salesman?

If you’re really really really good at it.

Most salesmen are just middle class

If you have the personality/mindset for it, you can make a lot of money. Getting a decent entry level job, without experience, these days is probably a bit challenging though (most of those ads you're seeing are probably for BS - like those people who harass people to sign up for cable at Walmart or something).

Only people who get rich own a business. Otherwise you're just making good money.

You aren't gonna be rich working for someone else unless you're literally CEO 10k a day.

I mean, I can't guarantee and I haven't seen any of the ads you're referring too, but from what you've said it sounds like they're probably those types I mentioned.

yes if you have the personality for it. Also, it may require someone of lower morality to sell ****ty products (Used to work in sales at LA fitness for PT)

Well, typically it's getting into an SDR type (or similar) role and then being able to work up from there.

I'm not in sales though, so I can't really give offer any advice beyond that.

Everything you need to know they already told you. Srs

Sales people generally have to be good spinless liars - but definitely not all of them.

As long as it’s nit a cold calling dial 300 numbers in 8 hours job selling printer ink, try it out. Who knows where it’ll take you.

Just don’t work for commission only and don’t fuk the company you work for - many salespeople so this

If you're selling high ticket items, yes you can make a lot of money if you're good.
The biggest factor is it depends what you're selling, and obviously depends how good you are as a sales person.

If you're selling something where the commission is high per unit sold, the volume of closes is not as high, and you can get away with being not as good of a salesperson.

conversion rate * number of leads * average commission $ per close = your take home.

Thus to be a good sales person you must:
a) become a better closer.
b) make more phone calls.
c) sell a higher ticket item.

If you're making no sales, you probably can't close for ****, doing more would just have you doing more chit calls - useless. Try making the same number of calls but improving your conversion rate.

Quality over quantity.

Like others ITT have said, if you can sell your own product, you can become very rich.

When I was in school I went to an interview for an ad like this, caught on pretty quickly though once I got there. It's hard to tell from just the ad, and they actually do disguise themselves by omitting certain information.

The sales involves getting your friends and family to buy the knives/vacuums/milkshakes/makeup/whatever, and then you get them to sell it to other people, and then they sell it to other people, on and on. They call it Multi-Level Marketing which is just a euphemism for ponzi scheme.

The biggest culprit is HerbaLife. I'm not sure if the ads you see are like this, but it's definitely very common.

Depends on what your selling and your personality.

So I know someone that sells automobile accessories. Rims/tires/suspension lift/lowering, etc. He has about 3,000 followers on IG. But they are all people he knows/that has been a customer and will be a repeat customer. He has no reason to advertise or harass people to buy stuff. His customers come to him. And his customer base grows through word of mouth. Its an easy six figure job (100% commission).

So if you want to make it in sales I'll ask you this. You start a job in sales tomorrow. How many of your friends/relative/associates are going to buy whatever product you sell, tomorrow?

Depending on what industry you're in it can be a good way to make and save a bunch of money, and then invest that to eventually become rich

Unlikely you'll be making 500k+ a year on it tho

Good products sell themselves. If you have to convince people to buy your product then it is useless junk.

That's not the point. The point is, how many people that know you, are going to actively support you? Everyone I know that does well in sales that's not B2B or does well with a small business is extremely personable and everyone they know supports their business. If OP is an incel with a small social circle he's not going to have the personality to make it big in sales.

If you're a top tier sociopath and/or you actually like the product you're selling, can be a great job.

Nothing worse than selling stuff you don't believe in.

Trying to sell junk to your family and friends is a good way to become socially alienated. I've had this happened to me before. An old friend who I haven't spoken to in a while calls me out of the blue to dinner and to catch up. Turns out he wanted me to "invest" in his pyramid scheme.

That's why I automatically ignore people from the past who pretend that they want to catch up. 100% they want your money.

Its not about selling junk. Its not even about harassing people and asking them to be a customer. Its about people that know you. Who want to be your customer to support you. They go to you because they know you. You don't seem to understand my point. Its more about who you are as a person then actively trying to sell crap to people.

I know a guy that started selling Toyota's at about 19-20 years old. He started the job and updated his ******** with a status/pic of him being a salesman at the lot. Did not call anyone. His first week 11 people that's either related to him or knows him/his family showed up and bought a brand new truck/car. First week. Its been about 8 years now and he's been rocking and rolling. Popular in HS. Large family that have a lot of community ties. Goes to a large church. Has a large social circle. People come to him.

My point is you're either a Chad or a Timmy. Everyone I know that does really well in sales is a Chad.

shoe has a point.

I started a brick n motar business 2 years ago. No clients, no connections/friends, not a single customer when I started.

My strategy: pick an existing niche that does well, and do it better. there's always ways to do things better. it can be as simple as: having more options in products. is it really so hard? not at all.

although, i am extremely good with people in person.
