First thing's first: quit the drinking. Stop numbing your emotions, and feel how you need to feel. Your body will feel better after long enough being sober, your physique will improve, chit you'll even save money. During the recovery from alcohol you'll feel better emotionally about your situation as well, and will be amplified by placebo effects because the tangible feeling of physical recovery will reinforce in your brain that your emotional recovery is improving too.

How recently did you two break up? Depending on the answer to that (if it's fairly recent) I'd stop trying to talk to girls for a while, take a 6 months or longer break. After an 8 years relationship, you should enjoy the solitude and what it means to be free of the burdens of relationships (keeping someone else happy, spending time on them, working with their agendas, doing what they want before doing what you want, sacrificing chit, etc.). Do what YOU want to do. Focus on improving yourself. You don't need to find someone else like a desperate puppy.

Spend as much time as possible with friends man. Don't get mad at yourself for thinking about her, but try to avoid/get rid of anything that reminds you of her for a while.
