Highest rate of suicide in the US belongs to males ages 75+

It's hard to take this data and make any solid conclusions, but it raises some questions.

I have a theory that a man, having been retired for 10+ years at this point feels absolutely useless. Kids are middle aged and don't need you, spouse may or may not be dead/divorced etc.

This is exactly why I say that retirement for me doesn't mean quitting my job all together. My perfect retirement would include me doing something low stress, 20 or 30 hour work week and something that I love and am passionate about. I definitely don't want to drop EVERYTHING at 55-60 years old and become a bum with an RV for the next 20 years. I still want to be productive, but have the financial reassurance that I don't HAVE to work. But I simply am because that's what I want to do.

Obviously when I get to the point where my body and mind are useless in the workforce, I would fully retire. But my family history tells me I'll be in perfectly good health at least until mid 70's or early 80's.

I don't think I could do it at that age. I tell myself that being a slave until I'm 50 will be worth it so unless my portfolio tanks bigly and my houses burn down I will make it.

Think back 5-10 years prior to today. What were your views on life, money and work in general? Mine completely flipped over the course of like 2 years, in my early twenties. Imagine how much will change by the time you're at that age.

Honestly, I think the answer is simpler than we think. At 75+ years old you’re likely to have some pretty fked up health conditions. Some probably in excruciating pain on the daily baby please. No energy, no little kids to take care of, already pretty much experienced everything life has to offer, many of your friends are already dead. Why stick around and suffer?

Exactly my point. You haven't served a real purpose since the day you retired, at that point in your life. 20+ years of essentially being a bum.

Shows the fault of basing your value in life from your career. Eventually you will get old, retire, and you won't know chit about life because you spent all your time being a wagie so you could flex some job title you don't have anymore.

Makes me wonder what will happen to all of these childless/husband-less career women when they get old and retire.

I'm guessing the majority of these are single guys who just don't want to live much longer. Tough to believe a guy with kids killing himself at that age.

Anyways, the key here is to move to a place where older people are respected more. Latin America is a natural location.

This age group far surpasses the other male age groups, and absolutely dwarfs female statistics in ALL age groups.

There has to be more to it than that. Or maybe that's just a small reason in an otherwise large culmination of reasons.

Well American culture is basically garbage these days where old people aren't respected nor is anybody else.

It isn't that hard bro. You get diagnosed with cancer at that age commonly.

75 is old but the way you took care of yourself will REALLY be evident at that age. Know some very lively and in relatively good shape/happy 75 year olds, also know some that can barely walk, fat, look like a pile of chit because of no exercise, diet for many many years previously.

How long do you want to live after your body and mind are useless?
Modern medicine can pretty much keep you "alive " in some capacity for years after you would have naturally died and the majority of medical professionals don't have a problem with completely draining you of your wealth while you rot away completely incapacitated.
Also take into account that most Americans are in poor health thier entire life anyways and checking out at 75 doesn't sound so bad, I mean we show more compassion to dogs and cats.

Guys 75+ can be divided into two groups...
- went to Vietnam
- didn't go to Vietnam

Hopefully the ones offing themselves were the draft dodging fuks.

How many of them lost their wives first? I’m betting a bunch.

Keep in mind 75+ was a generation that actually still valued marriages and their significant other.

It’s probably much harder for them because women weren’t totally f*cking useless cum dumpsters back then (don’t get me wrong, some still were)
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
