In the 2022 film Black Adam they are planning on introducing the iconic character of Hawkman to the DC universe. In the comics he was always portrayed with European features and skin. For this upcoming film he will be black.

It just doesn’t make any sense to me, this pandering on the part or DC and Marvel is getting ridiculous. They are planning on making a black Clark Kent instead of telling the story of the black Superman Calvin Ellis. They are making commissioner Gordon black in the new Batman. They made Human Torch black in the Fantastic Four remake. They made Heimdall, Perry White, Nick Fury, Deadshot, and a bunch of others black.

Why can’t they tell the story of canonicallly black superheroes if they want to focus on representation? There are heros like Steel, Static Shock, Mister Terrific, Cyborg, the black version of Firestorm, etc that they can make films about. They already have shows for Luke Cage, Falcon, & Black Lightning. Black Panther was a massive film. How about a Spawn or Blade reboot? There are plenty of black characters within the Marvel and DC universe, why the constant need to blackwash white characters?

Anybody who has read the comics or watched the Justice League shows or Arrow knows who Hawkman is. Both Hawkman and Hawkgirl have been parts of The Justice League.

It’s not just that they are blackwashing characters, it’s the frequency and reasons why that are the bigger issues.

I dont like Hawkman but read thousands of comics before and came across him. He was always white, though I remember he is also another race worshipped by ancient Egypt?

Anyway Black Adam is my favorite DC character. I hope they dont mess it up. BA is super serious, hope Rock can make it work.

Yes, The Rock isn’t a good casting for the role. They should have gotten a Mediterranean Caucasian actor with hair, someone from either North Africa, the Middle East, or Southern Europe. The Rock looks exactly what he is, a black and Samoan hybrid. You think DC gives a chit? They cast Jason Mamoa, someone who is half Samoan and seems to identify with his Samoan side as Aquaman who is famously known for being Nordic looking.

The Rock sucks, I’m sick of seeing him and now Batista in a bunch of chit. He’s a horrible choice to play Black Adam. The one casting that looks good is Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, I have a feeling he will make the movie somewhat bearable.
