I didn't read the article but the title said she could pay a fine to be released from prison and forgiven for the crime. Seemed kind of incredible but it is central America I guess. I remember another similar story of a wealthy Mexican boater running over a musician killing her. The wealthy Mexican guy paid the government a fine and all was forgiven. The family of the dead musician didn't get anything.
