I think it’s genetic. My forearms have always been a weak point and are still thin. They don’t have that thickness and size that I see some other guys have.

I finish every upper body workout with plate curls, made a noticeable difference.

My forearms were 14.5 at their biggest cold flexed, I don’t know what they are now probably around 14. When my forearms were at their biggest I did not train them directly very often, besides doing hammer curls/reverse curls during my arm workouts but I did that more for working the biceps and brachialis. Doing chin ups/pull ups works them well, heavy barbell curls will hit them. Forearms are a genetic strong point for me though. I feel forearms are similar to calves, you can make them grow regardless of genetics but you are going to be very limited in what you can do with them by your genetics. I guess that goes for any body part but it seems especially true for traps, calves, and forearms.
Nowadays I try to do a few sets for forearms on arm day, but I don’t really see a difference in doing direct work for them or not and never have.

I haven't used straps for years, can rep the coc #2 and do hammer curls for 99% of my biceps exercises (after you tear a bicep it feels a lot safer) but mine have always sucked.

I think they are a lot like calves. While you can improve them, Either you have them or you don't. I get commented on my calves a lot and have never done a calf exercise in my life. My dad's like 70 and still has massive calves.

Forearms are like calves. You can train them and make them bigger muscle wise, but if you have small bones and "bad" insertions, they're always going to look small.

You can absolutely train them and make them bigger most of the size aspect comes from doing reverse curls
