77 years ago today the allies invaded europe
which means most veterans of that campaign aren't any younger than 96-97 now. a few more years and all of them wil be gone

Six of my great uncles fought in either WW2 or Korea. Somehow, all six of them survived the wars.
I tried to join the military but was DQ’d for asthma and told it was nearly impossible to get a waiver. I regret that to this day and wish I could’ve done my part, if only for a few years.
Normandy was glorious but also hideous. The initial waves of troops were annihilated and some were dropped by the Navy in 9 feet or so of water, so far from the beach that they lost all their gear/drowned/were shot without anyone surviving. What they went though was unfathomable.

Last WW1 vets died in 2012. I expect that all the WW2 vets will be gone by 2035
