If you were diagnosed with cancer and had a high deductible insurance...
And if you lived far away from your parents, would you quit your job and move home, and get on state insurance?

Is this a sheerly financial question? If you think that's a good move money-wise, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Insurance is designed to protect individuals from financial ruin due to a bad roll of dice. Sucks that your regular insurance may not be doing that adequately so take the state insurance if you can.
My main concerns though would be (1) how much of an effect would this have on your career? do breaks matter that much in your field and (2) (maybe not something you want to discuss on misc but) is it serious enough that you might want to weigh your priorities based on how much time you may/may not have left?
Best wishes for your recovery and financial outcome either way.

srs answer? find a clinical trial. depending on your friend's diagnosis- can get the best care from a top level institution for free(sometimes even get reimbursed for travel/food/parking/etc...) it's not hard to find either- just go to clinicaltrials.gov and can search by diagnosis and location. good luck to your friend
