It appears that life has no intrinsic value or meaning
If you remove your emotional attachment to living things that you care about
If you remove your anxiety about what could exist after death
Not even trying to be edgy here.
My dad is struggling with heart disease and other chitty living conditions.
I'd rather have him just die peacefully in his sleep rather constantly being in pain and worried about his disease for the next 20 years. He's in his 60s

We have gone from a society that used to do things for a higher being and ourselves because we knew we were special. Now we are a society that doesn't want to do anything because we don't believe in a higher being and think we are just animals.
I hope you and your Dad pull through and that you both find the peace you are looking for.

Also, society just went from blind religion fanatism and organic solidarity ( out of necessity ) to individualism, liberalism, and secularism.
Now we have the time to think and don't have the constraint of societal norms and religions indoctrinating us.
Not to mention the advancements in science that made us realize more and more that we are not as special as we think.
You're free to cope

Things will only get worse for him.

In a vaccuum it doesn’t
Life is what you make of it
