American Airlines Asks Workers To Volunteer For No Pay During Summer Travel Surge

Phucking lmao at being a wagecel where you can work for free to sleep at night or risk ending up on the chop block.
According to Business Insider, American Airlines sliced 30% of its staff, which involved firing around 1,500 people. In April, the airlines said that it “expects to fly more than 90% of its domestic seat capacity compared to summer 2019 and 80% of its international seat capacity compared to 2019.”

Last month, Delta also asked some of its employees to help out at its Sky Club lounges in the Atlanta airport. The workers will not be given any payment for giving their time and effort, either

if true that is incredibly tone deaf in a time where there is a tight labor market and ppl don't even need to work because welfare pays better than having a job.

Honestly getting ridiculous, as much as I hate gov intervention, if this won't get places to pay workers a wage that at least keeps place with inflation, time to crack down on exec comp.

Actually that’s the wrong line of thinking, you work at a airline taking tickets a job anyone can do. You have the right to work somewhere else if you don’t like “voluntary” work. If you can’t tell a company to go screw because you make 30k serving beers on the airplane and want to pay a $500 bmw payment every month it’s your fault. Government interfering is just going to inflate the wages of these non-skillcels and the price will be passed on to you

Wagecels will do it because they live paycheck to paycheck, CEO knows this and is making boss decisions. Why not get free work? Wagecel Society is to blame for their lifestyle that enables CEOs To take advantage of them

Imagine spending your days crammed in a flying bus with dozens of rude, obnoxious people, some of them going full retard because of the corona guidelines, for free.

Just LMAO.

To be clear, I am pro-small gov and limited reg. But the bolded is precisely why I would want gov interference in this case - to keep the price from being passed on to me and to have it be taken out of the pocket of the exec team, board of directors, and even shareholders.

Eh..they’re asking people who are salary workers if they want to. So managers etc. Nothing new, they always did that. All corporates ask for volunteers for something they don’t get paid to do that ultimately helps the company. Then they take pictures and post them on social media and those people are probably the next bosses.
I probably banged your mom.

Eat the whole animal like a real man.

In no scenario does government intervention fail to increase the prices for you. You’re nonsensical statement is a house of cards, cutting out shareholders?? Lmfao prices will be hire when nobody is ****ing investing so there is less growth and planes available

Cut ceo/director salary?? Lmfao then you’ll get a chit bargain rate ceo who destroys the company. Less planes to ride higher price than you

Ring out the wagecels for what they’re worth keeps the price low. Raise their pay, raise your prices, you don’t take a plane trip. You costed a job shrinking the industry by not taking an expensive flight to pay a artificial wage to an unskilled worker

The way you people think literally fails on every faucet and is widely to blame for the short comings of society. Blasting emotional nonsense with zero understanding of the real time consequences

If I worked at the airport and depending on what they'd want help with, I probably would do it if only for the recognition and virtue signal it brings (in a good way).

A lot of the times its those that volunteer that end up getting the promotion to mangers and what not (not always, but usually).

Again, it would have to depend on the situation - if it was flying, I would pass on working free hours dealing with onboard aholes.

You are a fool sir.

Wages are going down across the board. Everyone's wages are going down through just the inflation due to the bailouts to the corporations like airlines.

YOUR WAGES ARE ALREADY LOWER JUST DUE TO THE DEVAULING OF THE DOLLAR BY THE MASSIVE CHECKS THAT ARE GIVEN TO THESE COMPANIES.

Your wages are going to go down officially and on paper just like the airline workers will.

And you asked for it.

Pathetic.
