Job interview today was Brutal. Hold my hand

Not brutal as in they asked challenging questions, since they almost didn't ask any technical questions(position was for mechanical engineer), but they basically laughed at my university grades, my lack of experience with their CAD system of choice and their particular line of work.

It was really awkward, got interviewed by three different dudes and all of them looked like they have no idea what to do with me. They looked at me like I was retarded srsly, they even asked me if I was okay with starting as just a mechanic at first. Dang man, I feel stupid as fukk brah. Tell me it's OK

The only bad interview I've ever had in my life was a co op position for a firm that did structural engineering. They were asking questions that no 2nd year college student would be able to answer and then looked smugly at each other after every answer I gave. I suspect its because the 2 of them were hideous little trolls who were jelly and wanted to bring me down a notch. They ended up hiring the only cute girl in our class and she quit after like one week with them and ended up changing her major to education shortly after.

Nah you'll be fine. I did a lot of interviews coming out of college and a majority of them were really excited to bring me on, and loved my personality. Then I had a one interview where they did not like me at all. Went in and they actually said my grades were too high (lmao wtf?), and that if I could be normal? They thought I was a total nerd and they were also manlets, and I'm 6'3", and I lift. They ended up just chitting on my life to the point where it was obvious I wouldn't get the job. The job was chit and the pay was even chittier, but since I was called in I figured it would be respectful to show up. One of my classmates got the job and like 3 months later he quit, and said everyone was an idiot.

An interview is you interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you.

They need to impress you as well or you move on to something else. Remember, there's always another job/company around the corner.

a lot of the engineers I've met and worked with are arrogant dicks with zero social skills.

This is it as well. In my 3.5 years in engineering school I met more people, fellow students and professors, that I absolutely could not get along with than the rest of my entire life combined. I met some great dudes too but as a % they are much weirder, more stubborn and less agreeable than the general population. I think its because if you have mild case of asperger's syndrome everyone tries to convince you to be an engineer because they assume that way you won't have to interact with people

This brings a smile on my face. Nothing worse than fugly dudes who have the need to do this to feel better, followed by immediate karma ( cute girl stopped).

After college I had an interview for an embedded programming job that went sort of like that. They quickly assessed I had no real world experience and they would have to train me (even though I was good at c/c++). They wanted someone they could just drop right in and get results. Its more difficult these days to find a company that'll train someone but keep searching and don't get discouraged.

now the economy is a bit worse. May be harder to get a job now.

You should be able to eventually get a job. Few people have mechanical engineering degrees. At least you don't have a business or even an accounting/finance degree because those jobs have like 50+ applicants.

Don't sweat it, OP. Everyone has bad interviews, some more uncomfortable and/or laughable than others. I remember interviewing with a big company for an entry level sales support job (was known as a company that you could work your way up through) and was interviewed at various times by more than one person. This was the mid-2000s, and I think one of the guys was a try-hard, Google wannabe and asked some odd questions that represented what HE thought a good trick question would be. One of them was "if you were on your computer and the screen went blank, what would you do?" So I answered, try another monitor, and if that doesn't work, look at the video card. For whatever reason he didn't like that answer and replied "well what if you COULDN'T do that...?"

This, it can be hard as phuck getting your foot in the door to start getting the initial experience that everyone wants (everyone wants experience, but no one wants to be the one to give it to you). I've been there.

I do have experience in engineering, but not really extensive. I've mostly worked random office jobs. Decided to give it a shot, I said in advance that my knowledge might be a bit rusty, but I still have skill with softwares in the industry . Figured its only fair game to give them heads up about it so we can avoid a misunderstanding lol

Youre gonna have those but they still help you in the end. Also I find people usually do better than the think they did.

Had an interview not long ago where I listed a cert that wasnt exactly specific to my industry but One I had nonetheless, while also having a cert DIRECTLY related to my job that few of any others had, and these fuks kind of chuckle talking about them then one says… don’t take this the wrong way but .. but .. have you figured out yet what you wanna be when you grow up?

Been through interviews like that before. You dodged a bullet, that isn't the type of company you want to work for. Take the feedback, clean up your resume and if your grades aren't great, take them off of the resume.

I remember one place I walked out and called my recruiter and told him absolutely not because the hiring manager sat there the whole time like I was wasting his time.
