Thinking of joining the Police (Ausbrah), talk me out of it

Thought about it for a very long time......


I find all work to be boring and mundane. I don't expect police work to be action packed, aware of the paper work and chit things...



Pros:
- Feel like im doing something good for society, feel useful
- More holidays
- I can be proud of what I do (I don't care what the public view is, I only value my own judgement if this makes sense)



Cons:
- shift work. I value my sleep...
- Massive Paycut. let's say I make a lot of money now, so It'll be 60% paycut at least.
- not a family friendly schedule
- politics (similar to any other job really).
- chitty characters at senior manaement level (like every career. I can confirm, I am senior management).
- some cops are chit humans (and some chitty people work as accountants/ IT / HR/ Marketing/ Tradies... bleh)




So inb4:

- I don't give two fks if people hate me (srs)

- I dont give two fks if media *hates* me

- I dont wanna bash anyone with a baton

Do you have any marketable skills from your previous job you could do? Police Forces, need data scientists, investigation etc all sorts of skills.

Are you a rural bumpkin? aka you don't live in a city?

I have many skills but I do not want to join the police to do the same job im doing now, I want to do the actual policing work in the street

That's pretty awesome, but isn't Australia about as pozzed as England? Can you even carry a gun as a policeman in Australia?
Being an unarmed cop sounds real chitty with all the lebos crawling about.

You should also consider being a fireman. You get paid to sleep and you work in a team with bros. No guilt that comes with having to be mean to people either.

Honestly, it sounds like the cons far outweigh the pros and could potentially be a huge negative when/if you do end up on the force.

If you want to do something good for society, there are other avenues; volunteering, being the most prominent. You can still keep your well paying, 9 to 5 and commit to a few weekends every now and then to something you're passionate about. Even coaching, as an example.

The cons you listed are very much a part of the job. Something you'll have to get used to and accept, otherwise you'll end up resenting your job and burning out. I say this as someone who is also considering joining the force. Think about it. Best of luck.

Agreed on the shift work part - i worked a similar job when i was a younger man and i remember looking and feeling like sh*t even though i was pocketing a bunch of money.

Felt crusty as f*ck and anytime i worked for 50 hours night shifts my whole body would be cracking.
