Got an email from work saying we have the option to come into the office now

Feels like this is step one to bringing us back.. one of the managers mentioned that a 2-3 day minimum requirement should be in place before the end of the year

I know covid has been over in the US for a while now. How are your companies dealing with returning to the office?

I never stopped working in the office.

My wife still WFH and there's no mention of them heading back to the office. Her company let the lease expire.

Went back Monday brah. Doing 3 days a week right now.

LOL we never stopped working in the office. Never wore masks and continued working with members of staff even though they had tested positive and were coughing.

really depends on the location and company, for instance, in souch central, rural ohio, they literally didnt give a fuk about it, restaurant full of people mid-pandemic, no masks, everyone going about like usual but then at work, lots of employers have to play by the rules for fear of fines so they instituted a lot of WFH themselves. and then you have other states, cities, companies who are pro-mask, lockdowns and getting vaxxed, so just highly highly dependent on who and where. the red and blue states are just about night and day difference down here (SD, OH, FL vs CO, NY, WA)

Looks as though they're going to be fairly lenient as far as allowing people alternative work schedules and to work from home. This seems like a career killer to me for professionals. If you're working at a call center or some chit, go ahead, but if analytical abilities are part of your job? Gooby pls.

A few of my lateral colleagues have a 75 min commute so I understand the temptation, but I'll be returning full time even given the option to wfh 100%. I do think that even though upper management appears to be pretty lenient, that I can't imagine wfh being somewhat of a career compromise, and I think larger organizations are going to regret wfh models when we see what it does to entry career level people (straight from undergrad, no real office experience) and also for development/mentoring/grooming talent for senior management.

Would you really want to promote someone you've only dealt with in 30-60 minute zoom sessions a couple times a week? Seems kind of like throwing a ring on someone you've been messaging on Tinder.

There’s places still under covid restrictions? Our office has been open for over a year now and it was several months ago the hold outs were told to get back in or get canned.

My boss wants us to go back into the office for at least the team round table on Tuesdays, and maybe for Thursdays as well.

I get it on his end - he's a super visual person who really, REALLY wants a whiteboard to break chit down on, and no doubt getting face time with reports makes his job easier too. But he's got two staff engineers who are REALLY pushing back on him. One guy flat-out said it's a waste of my time, I get more done at home than in the wagie cagie. The other guy has a 45 min commute he doesn't want to start making again.

It will be interesting to see who wins out... those are two senior people boss brah can't afford to lose.

Yeah I feel like all things equal they would want to promote the guy who comes in regularly. I'm perfectly okay with a 2-3 day schedule. Just can't do a full 5 days (I would accept a lower salary not to lol)

Been working remote for years, way before covid. I prefer working this way, have turned down in-office jobs.

I just don't think I fit in that environment coming from a blue collar working background.
