Friend moved into his girlfriend's apartment.
Got a new job that pays with direct deposit instead of a cheque.

He tried to open a bank account however they need identification that includes proof of his current physical address.
He only has a State ID which has his old address on it. In order to get a new ID, he needs proof of his current address, which is impossible since his name isn't on the utility bill etc.
Anyone have a solution? Will rep

Use old address? Buy something from amazon and have his name/address?

Sign up for one of the bank's spam stuff and use their mail with his name/address?

I think they need legit mail, like cable, water, electric etc.How do homeless people or people who recently moved open an account then? Gotta be a way.

If he legit moved into the apartment (instead of just crashing there), then a signed letter from the landlord stating that he actually lives there and his name is on the rental agreement would suffice.

He doesn't pay rent. But i guess she can write a bs contract and have him sign it just for optics. Would that suffice? I guess it doesn't show any mail with his name on said address, but it would be something.

Is she the homeowner or also renting? If she's the h.o. then yes. Otherwise, its trickier. But even if she's renting, heshouldbe able to swing it if she writes a rental sublet agreement and he + she both sign it in front of a notary public, which gets stamped by a state licensed person and counts legally in a much stronger way (i.e. the bank could sue them super easily if they were frauding and something went sideways). I think a notary public charges about $8-15, depending on area. A simple search in google maps will find notary public services, they're everywhere. Can also find template letters for rental sublets on the internet.

Surely he has some kind of bill that would be mailed to the address. Use that.

Every bank needs your ID and does verification checks. They all do it because if they get caught even once they can be subject to enforcement action from regulators in which the regulators make you spend millions on consultancy fees and their services before they fine your ass. Also, banks now do a lot of due diligence on individuals consumers, and by banks, I mean ****** in Pune.

There's a system as well that can cross-verify if you've got to other banks and refused to provide ID. In Europe, it's worse.

Also before you say something like ohh illegals don't have to provide ID they absolutely do now and have their accounts frozen until they do. This has already been discussed with feminist US but they still said **** off provide the IDs
