I have no idea how I worked overnights for so long...
I worked overnights as my main hours of work for about 5 years total between a few jobs in my 20's. It sucked asss then, no way would I wanna do that bs consistently as I get older. No idea how some people do it for like 20+ years.
The not sleeping at night part is bad enough. The real bitch though, is how much of a pain the asss sleeping during the daytime can be. Especially during the summers when it's brighter than hell and louder than chit outside. I'm pretty sure I'd die before my 60's if I worked overnights as a main career schedule. I actually have a lot of respect who manage to do it for a long time without losing their sanity.

I'm only in my mid-20s and already my tolerance for discomfort has decreased dramatically from my early 20's.
I used to drive cross-country in the southern US summer with no A/C in my car, buy Frontier airline tickets, take odd shifts for the extra pay.
I can't imagine doing any of those things now. My mind is blown how certain jobs like roofers in Phoenix tolerate it.

Worked shifts for 3 years, could be any hours of the day but was usually overnights
It was terrible but the job and pay was insane so it is what it is
You make friends with people in the same job who all have the same antisocial hours like you, so there's a mutual understanding

I did it for almost 2 years in my early 20s. It was brutal op.
I covered the inside of my bedroom window with tinfoil and used a towel at the bottom of the door to make my room pitch black during the day.

worked a 5PM-5AM shift for a year in my 20s. Fukking sucked balls. I'd get home, shower and be going to bed at 6:30AM. Really sucked when it was sunny and 75°.
Then my douche bag friends would drop by at 9 or 10 in the morning all like "Why the fuk are you still sleeping you lazy bum?"

I had a friend who worked the graveyard shift at a sawmill for a year. I could never do it. That chit is beyond brutal. No way you could get proper sleep having to do it during the day and you'd be awake at 4am when everyone else is asleep

Don’t let people get it twisted. At least where I work there are nights and there are overnights. Nights is 1-9 3-11 4-midnight . I’m on it now and love it. Might do it my entire career .
Wake up at 7am have many hours to chill, if not doing a double, no traffic in or out.

I got off work at 8:00a, I’m at the gym now.

I did it for 16 months when I was 28-29.
I decided to change careers/reset and left a high level finance position for a Nightshift Wastewater Operator (entry level). I had to be in the position while I got my licenses. It was 4 on/4 off -12 hour shifts from 7pm-7am by yourself.
Looking back (now at 35)....It worked out for the best, and I moved up like I planned but I don't know how the fuk I did it. Not only the overnight part...but the being by myself for basically 90% of my week.... Was rough.
