Was at work yesterday evening and this old man about 65-70 years old was going down the stairs, had a heart attack and collapsed. He pretty much banged his head and was laid on his backside, bleeding from the head.

I didnt even see it but got alerted by a member of the public so me and my manager quickly ran to check him out and I called the ambulance myself.

I was pretty much in a state of shock and didn't know what to do but just followed the instructions of the 999 caller till the paramedics arrived. He wasn't breathing and they told me to perform CPR by placing my hands on the chest. His relatives came to pick him up to and got told what happened so they were stood next to him the entire time. It happened quite fast and was a blur.

Police came too and reassured me there was nothing more I could of done. Pretty much got told by everyone to go home early.

Feel abit better today but fuk brahs it was one of the most surreal experiences I've had. My head was all over the place. Anyone else been in similar situation?

There was a really old guy in a parking lot who left his car in neutral. He fell over getting out and the tire was about to run over his leg. Ran up and pulled him away, then parked his car. Nobody died though.

Yes unfortunately. Was outside of the office one day at an old job and this old man (guy was at least 70) was outside chopping wood at around peak Alabama summer time so humidity and heat was around if not over real feel 100. I thought to myself ‘this old man is gonna die out here if he keeps this up’. I get called back in and when I went out again all I see is his truck and his legs hanging halfway out. I ran over and his hand was on the steering wheel, tried talking to him and I grabbed his arm to check his pulse and was amazed at how cold his body was. Called 911 and they tried to use the boards on him but it was too late.


Always felt like I might’ve could’ve stopped him if I’d just went to tell him he should go back in. At the time I didn’t want to go out there and try to boss some old man around who prob did it all the time.


I also saved someone who was about to die. This black man had centered a tree driving drunk. As I was headed to work before the sun came up (diff job much earlier), I saw taillights stopped on a road that nobody was ever on at that time. They were on the opposite side. I parked my car on the right and get out and one of the cars belts were screaming. Idk how it still ran because he was halfway in the tree head on. Tinted glass I thought until I opened the door, it was all exhaust smoke. Bro man had a mountain of empty Budweiser cans but he was laid over bleeding from the nose.

I tried to help that guy all I could but he was trying to drive off and got violent with me when I kept telling him he was in a tree and his car wasn’t gonna move. He started reaching around in his cargo pockets so I just called 911 on him. When I opened his door he was almost gone from the exhaust. I left his passenger side door open so it would air out as I left so his ungrateful ass wouldn’t die before the cops came.

Hang in there, OP, it'll take a while to clear out because so much extreme stuff happened in a few minutes, and your mind and psyche have to process the event by subconsciously rewinding it repeatedly. Its even heavier because the guy didn't make it, and that might bring up questions or doubts if you did enough, etc. The important thing to know is that that you did follow through with the CPR as instructed. Sometimes it works, sometimes its just time for people to go and there isn't anything that others can do to stop it.

I've been around similar stuff regarding near-death of neighbors a few times. Most recently was staying at mother-in-law's flat, wife and I heard loud bang downstairs in middle of night, went to check and elderly neighbor had fallen and hit her head, was delerious with what looked like a pint of spilled blood everywhere, called the ambulance and kept her awake until the paramedics arrived. Neighbor recovered, though.

Sounds rough man, sorry to hear that couldn't imagine being in that situation with a loved one.

You did what you could.
When you do CPR, make sure to press hard and fast. You might hear some rib crack and that's ok. Better to do that than have them die.

That's rough, OP. First time doing it and hearing the sternum/ribs crack is just a chitty experience. CPR isn't a fool proof way to revive people, it's just to keep the airflow going long enough for actual assistance to arrive with specialized equipment.

Break any ribs? I've done CPR probably 30+ times on patients, it's not pretty. Don't feel bad, even in the hospital with a complete team doing everything, CPR only works less than 1/5th of the time.

Did you give him mouth to mouth?

Pretty sure they teach in BLS to never give mouth to mouth to a stranger like that from what I recall last time I took it. Doubt any 911 person would tell someone to do it, and it's hard to explain how to do it properly so it's usually better to just have them do compressions.

Nah I didn't get told to do it and neither did the paramedics when they arrived.

Later the cops said they wouldn't ask you anyway due to covid.

Back when I worked in a office my customers kid started having a seizure, she gave me instructions on how to hold him while she got his medicine out the bag. It was scary af, lasted about 5min or so. Kid was ok after and just straight up napped while we finished the transaction.

Was walking towards post office to drop off some mail for my job (across the street) when I noticed a man parked in our lot shaking uncontrollably, I tried to ask him what was wrong and he kept on shaking, called the 911, and stepped back into the office to alert boss and coworkers, boss brought a object to break back window to unlock car and we pulled him out. He was having a seizure, ambulance came and took him. Don't really know what happened to him after. Car stayed in our lot for almost a week then it was gone.

My adrenaline was that high I couldn't tell. I don't think the guy made it although haven't heard any news on him. But yeah was one those unfortunate incidents you don't expect to happen.

Ex-wife was working at the city library while in nursing school (she had completed LPN training and was working towards RN). The library had a big pond in front of it with swans and ducks.

Unknown to the staff, some single mom went into the library with her 3 and 5 year old sons and left them there to go shopping.

Some lady came into the library screaming there is a baby floating in the pond.

My ex-wife ran out and jumped into the pond and pulled the 3 year old out who was floating face down. She started CPR and the kid was breathing again when paramedics showed up. Mother showed up during the commotion and was taken into custody by police.

Ex-wife does not know the outcome for the kid other than he was breathing on his own when taken to the hospital.

Compressions only CPR is generally done unless you have a breathing apparatus to assist you. You don't know what kind of diseases randoms on the street have, srs. I'd only give mouth to mouth to a family member.

Not always. I think the direction is to not use mouth to mouth at all in almost all cases, or if you don't have a guard to cover.

Have done CPR on people probably 30ish+ times. Doesn't really even register as a thing anymore. 2 of those people have ended up living. Pretty bad odds.

Most of the time it's just done for show though.

Yeah it's not like the movies where everyone suddenly comes back to life.
