I remember when they said 2017 was the year and we wouldn't even have cars that could run on gasoline that's how bad it was supposed to get.

If estimates were wrong before due to innovations in technology, does that mean they will always be wrong? Will we always be able to develop enough technology/discover new resources to offset the increasing usage? Don't we have diminishing returns on technological innovation? Think about it.
