How big a deal is "campus rape culture" in US colleges/universities?
This is something very serious, something that affects millions of women around the country. If you don't know what campus rape culture is, let these definitions help you understand:
Does anyone have any first-hand experience regarding this issue of campus rape culture? Any anecdotal stories? I've read some horrific stuff about spiking of drinks.
Let's hear your thoughts.
The term ‘rape culture’ emerged in the 1970s (Harding 2015). In academic literature, rape culture denotes an interrelated spectrum of sexual violence, as well as the normalisation and social acceptance of these practices within the society (Burt 1980; Lonsway & Fitzgerald 1994,1995). Buchwald et al. (2005: xi) defines it as “a complex of beliefs that encourage male sexual aggression and support violence against women…” and highlights that rape culture condones physical and emotional terrorism against women that is presented as normal. ‘Rape culture’ is thus not (only) about rape — heteropatriarchal micro-aggressions are also able to intimidate and limit movement and function of women (Prieto et al. 2016).Rape culture thus refers to a culture of male violence and aggression towards women — a culture that is played out in daily life in different ways. But while the term has been around for more than four decades, it remains contentious to this day, with detractors often arguing that it overstates and overdramatises the problem (Harding 2015).
The phenomenon of campus rape culture arguably leapt into public consciousness with the study of Koss et al. (1987) on the prevalence of rape for women during their college years(Wooten & Mitchell 2016). But over the past four decades variousstudies have shown that women at HEIs are at a high risk for attempted or actual rape(Baum & Klaus 2005; Fisher et al. 2000; Karjane et al. 2005). For example, in a2015 study of 3863 American students, 25% of male students admitted to rape or attempted rape, while one in three men said that they would rape a woman if there were no consequences for doing so(Messina-Dysert 2015). Wooten (2016:48) notes that recent studies from the USA show that “campuses are failing disastrously to effectively address sexual violence”. Federal legislation was passed in 2013 that is meant to specifically tackle sexual violence at HEIs, and a national task force was set up in 2014 (Henriksen et al. 2016).
That last bold is... quite scary. Now, you might not care about this topic, and women in general, but one day you might. If you ever have a daughter, you'd be very concerned about what goes on at US colleges and universities. The phenomenon of campus rape culture arguably leapt into public consciousness with the study of Koss et al. While it happens, it's more like drunk sorority sluts regretting spreading their snatch at a party for a frat pledge or super senior brother who never graduated. Or the girls that hang around creepy dudes who force them into chit.
You don't hear these complaints from the nerdy chicks that frequent the library, visit their parents on the weekends and focus on getting an education/internship. They usually have a better judge of character.

GJ OP for providing no link or source. My guess is though whatever "study" is being cited probably used ambiguous questions like "if you were both drunk, would you still have sex with her?" and one in three guys saying yes equates to some liberal feminist twisting that to "one in three guys will rape a girl"

It's a real thing, and co-ed dorms are asking for trouble in my opinion. I knew a girl who dropped out of college when i was young because she was sleeping in her dorm room, and some drunk guy she knew barged into her room, forced her legs apart, raped her, went back to his room and passed out, and remembered nothing in the morning. I don't think she pressed charges, just dropped out of college and went into therapy.
I went to Notre Dame, it was very conservative and honestly a little boring, but i would feel very safe sending my daughter there.

On a scale of 0-100 it might be a 1. Don’t even know what “rape culture” is. Never seen anyone condone rape or anything like that.
If anything there is a false rape accusation culture

definitely a big problem. we should be doing everything in our power to make sure women are no longer anywhere near a university campus or job of any sort of significance ever again, thus eradicating this unnatural phenomenon.

uk brah here and while there are a few regret stories there are also a lottta borderline rapey stuff that happens. like other miscer said guys just barging in and molesting, girls complaining and guys still doing it. i know it happens as well cos you hear the guys say it themselves, ****ing completely blackout drunk chicks. imo if you are fairly sober and a girl is completely high off something or blackout drunk you have no business trying to have sex with them. (unless you're like super comfortable with them)
fictional account.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that rape occurs on college campuses. It’s an issue, but I’m not sure how it can resolved by the school(since college kids are going to party), outside of lessening the likelihood for a rape to occur (not boozing it up, going somewhere alone, etc). Also, for guys to not associate with other guys who have a reputation for being questionable character - which lessens their opportunity to be in a party type atmosphere.
There are scummy college guys who have entitlement issues who think they can do whatever they want to anyone. There also just scum bag guys.
I also think there are a handful of girls, who regret their actions and find it easier to claim assault or rape, than to take actual accountability.
Most of the ways to prevent rape are going to occur well before the rape occurs. Such as fathers teaching their daughters self-defense, to be of high value so they don’t associate with girls who always want to party, to not let their drinks be out of their sight, and teaching them the tactics that a potential rapist may use so they can be aware of the situation.

There just seems to be a big gray area of what's considered rape imo.
So many women hang out with bad crowds/men and they all get together and drink to excess. Seems like it's a basic formula for gray area rape that is now called rape. If both people are intoxicated, I don't even know if that should be considered rape or not, it depends.
Say you're a female hanging out with someone who's innate genetic desire is to spread their seed and their social inhibitions and decision making ability is down, and so is yours...seems like the basic formula where people start having sex for the first time.
How many "rapes" aren't rapes, but simply regret when your friends find about it. Then it's going to get back to your parents and you're supposed to be an innocent girl with a tarnished reputation across your sorority. I guess rape allegations are the go to solution in these situations?
I wouldn't say rape cases are going up, but what's considered rape skews the numbers to make them appear like they're going up. With the influx of social media, an enhanced communication technology, it's no wonder women want to stop the information spread and make them the victim instead of taking responsibility for bad decisions.

Third world countries doing it right by separating the genders in schools.
Never understood why there's co-ed dorms and how parents can justify sending their kid to stay in such a place (especially females).

Even then, dorms are usually just used for freshmen year and most students go to off-campus housing afterwards. While in the dorms they’re still going to meet up at parties, go to someone’s apartment, car, house, etc afterwards.

I can't believe there are people who believe this nonsense. It's the product of boomer cuck imagination, sexually immature males, mentally ill females, and very manipulative dishonest bitches.
No, that female that told you she was "raped" or "forced" is lying to you or she is very disturbed mentally.

I was raped SEVERAL times in college
Roofied once, then other times the girls just waited til I was so drunk that I would just go with it
Only once was a fat chick, other times it was girls I had turned down already, like nerdy band geek girls who just wanted their piece of the pie
Funniest time was after one of them came I just pushed her off and I'm like "ok you got what you wanted"
Women are huge rape culture enthusiasts at universities and its never the ones you want to bang
Hadn't been drunk raped (by a woman) since I was 15 before I went to college
NEVER trust women
