medium rare, although if it's a burger I'll let it being slightly more overdone slide, but when people incinerate their steaks it makes me cringe.

Well done steaks and burgers. I don't want any bacteria and when I'm at a restaurant I mostly like to insult the chef.

Medium-rare steak. Medium burger only because you can't always trust a burger chef to not undercook med-rare

I don’t take chances with burgers. I learned my lesson with those. Undercooked a burger and was sick as a dog for 2-3 days srs.

The difference is that the inside of a steak has not been exposed to the elements. Burger meat has. All kind of chit is in there

Medium on streak

Well done on burger

Medium on both. I'll elaborate:

Burgers - Because when I order my burger medium I expect it to come medium-well by the time it gets to me. And I'm fine with this because it means they gave the burger enough time to "Rest" after cooking. Nothing worse than biting into a burger so fresh that juice/oil burns your thumbs and the entire bun/plate because a grease pool/sponge.

Steaks, I can do medium-rare to medium-well. Really as long as the sear is good, and the meat isnt dried out, how can you complain?

People who swear anything above medium is ruined are just brainwashed and repeating what some "macho guy" told them 20 years ago when they were a kid.
Are you not entertained?

Well done on burger
This, the quality of the burger meat doesn't matter. The bacteria is throughout the whole thing so you need to fully cook it.

Costco switched to tenderizing their steaks by using needles to pierce the meat. Even though they were steaks they had a warning label which said you had to cook them to well done because of this new technique which pushed the bacteria to the middle of the steak. Needless to say people got mad and returned the meat and didn't buy it and they had to switch back.

Steak: Medium Rare

Burger: Well done

i don't really do steaks too often but i do my roasts to 133 then sear so i guess that ends up roughly medium rare to medium

burgers i won't do below medium-well, don't want any pink. but i do thin burgers anyway so it's imperfect anyway. not down with grinding bacteria into the center then not cooking it

I do not go for burgers anymore because they're quite unhealthy and not really good for the hit you take.

Steak depends on the quality. Genuinely cool with tartare. I'd probably not cook more than medium rare for a quality steak.

Cheap stuff I'm happy to ask cooked more.

I dont like actual steak. Had one extremely rare as a kid and it was a huge turnoff. Ill do burgers medium well, but generally well and I don't mind an occasional cheesesteak.
