I worked as a night shift (12 hours) RN for 6 years. It does destroy your health and almost every coworker who went to dayshift reported having a far better quality of life and sleep. If you mostly just LDAR maybe the money is worth it, but if you have a family or friends or whatever (I mean, it's the misc, so probably not) then I wouldn't. Up to you to decide if it's worth it, but it will lower your overall quality of life, potentially by a lot.

Moved to a new city to work PICU

Took the night shift, well I have no friends/girlfriend here so I'll be LDAR'ing for a while. Might as well make money

Night shift workers statistically have more health issues from what I remember.

I did it for almost a year and personally had the best sleep of my life. Iโ€™d sleep 9-5 during the day with zero issues. When I sleep at night I constantly wake up and have issues falling asleep. Weird.

So I guess my advice would be to try it and see how you feel.

I worked a random shift in a PICU once. I had some like 6 year old developmentally disabled chronic vent trach patient they said would be easy + one other. Kid developed a pneumothorax in the middle of the night. Doctors and nurses were like "oh don't worry he does that." JFL thanks for the heads up, great assignment for an adult RN. Never again, though it seemed pretty chill in general.

I used to be able to handle it but it became worse and worse, though maybe it was stress from other things affecting me as well. But in my early twenties I was straight up nocturnal, nowadays I am kind of just all over the place, but will default to start waking up at 6am or so. Shift work sleep disorder doesn't hit everyone though, I think it's like 30-50% of people get it.

I've always been a bit of a night owl - going to bed around 2am is natural for me. I currently do days with a few nights mixed in and it seems like switching back and forth is what kills me.

These would be 7p-7a or 6p-6a shifts FYI

No. Never. Not even for literally 3x the pay. Nights are never worth it. I did it for six months, and I would rather work at McDonaldโ€™s than do nights. You can feel your life draining.

Iโ€™ve been working night shift for about 11 years. We only get an extra $1 an hour. But I do it because it works out for my schedule, not for the extra money
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a nonlinear, nonsubjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

If you do not have a social life, the money probably makes the decision close to even.

Don't do it for the extra money. I work nights because I prefer it. But if the life style doesn't suit you it won't be worth the extra money.

Wouldn't work nights for $1M per year, srs.

$2M I'd start thinking about it.

Nights in my case is you do more maintenance or you do more flying. Working nights I learned to do a lot more maintenance. If we finish early with keep planes flying, we stop working....because no actual work to be done. We have a beer locker that we donate beer to. If you do a maintenance procedure wrong......you donate to the beer locker,. We go kick back at the shop with the beer locker and drink some beers. Not too much, just a nice buzz. When I was day crew and flew a lot, I always got a lot that beer not sold of the Mississippi .....forgot the name......not to bribe my people to my work for me, I love my people and I want them happy. If all I can do is supply beer from the east coast we can't get on the west coast...done.

I work basically a 2nd shift so I have my mornings but gone all day after that.

I like it though. Less people around, especially less higher ranking people. Way more chill. Overnights even better. Used to do that in college. It was a fun time although I only slept like 4 hours a day lol.

That's like $750 more a month after taxes...

It's tempting. I'd have to think about it.
