Washington DC/Virginia vs Philadelphia/New Jersey?

Where would you prefer to live and why? Single no kids. I'm going to have to decide within the next 3 months for my new job.

OP prefers to live by the ocean (within an hour), and doesnt want to spend more than $1600 for a 1 Bedroom Apartment.


Also OP needs a good dog sitter, so if any local miscers know 1, please give me their info

Virginia would be my choice. If you were in New Jersey outside of NYC I would pick there in a heartbeat but the Philly side of the state is chit.

Awful choices, but I would definitely lean to Philly/NJ. DC area is expensive and the traffic is absolutely awful.

South Jersey is cool, but this state has a ton of restrictions and chit laws. However, Philly is awesome to visit and there's a bunch of great spots on the shore within a 50-60 minute drive. If you come to SJ, I'd be willing to let your dog hang out with mine depending on the breed/size.

2600 for a 1 bedroom 15 min outside of DC for albeit in a nice area with Starbucks nearby.

I would not want either, but would take the second option. Phuck living in the DC area, and of course I work for a place that is Head Quartered close to the DC area so of course quite a bit of promotion possibilities if willing to relocate there but...no thanks.

Well I guess it depends how far out he wants to live and how long he wants to ride in a crowded metro with constant delays. They don't run like clockwork here, there is always track work, or some issue.

Northern Virginia is the best place to live, based on your options. Rent can be a bit high but you’ll be surrounded by successful people and have more opportunities, better food, entertainment, etc..

I could see a racist having problems living in NJ it is a very diverse area, but it's actually a very nice place to live for those of us tolerant of other races.

There’s plenty of affordable places in south Jersey within an hours drive of philly. But being within an hour of philly and a decent beach town is a much smaller window.

South Jersey is a different world than north Jersey. Politically it has all the bull**** of up north without the amenities of the north.

But you do get more privacy less traffic and a little lower rent

I'm going to give annapolis a real look. I just need to get to DCA airport for work and its a 35 mile drive it looks like, which isnt bad at all

Same for the PHL/New Jersey area.

I just need to be within 2 hours of the kPHL airport.

I was born and raised in NoVA…nice area…a lot of traffic…COL keeps going up

Do you just need to be 2 hours away from either airports? If so you could check out deleware around the coast

I live on the eastern shore of MD now…15 minutes from the beach 1350 for a 3 bedroom house….2ish hours to get to philly

There are farmer's markets everywhere. Unless it's winter, why would you get grocery store fruit and produce?

Not sure what the Indian population has to do with anything unless you just can't handle the diversity.

You are right about the trashiness, though. It's really strange to drive through neighborhoods with large $400k+ houses yet their yards look like chit and there is litter everywhere. SJ is just full of upper middle class hillbillies.

No sales tax in Delaware neither…its a more rural state then people are aware of so its not too expensive unless you live right on the coast or in some of the major cities. Still cheaper than living in the suburbs of DC/NoVA. The water in Delmarva stays pretty chilly until the end of summer/beginning of fall though

If you pick Jersey I would avoid north jersey. Straight trash up there. South Jersey by Philly is better, but only marginally.
