Whilst the world is not perfect, you can escape a lot of capitalistic negatives in your daily life.

Because the other thing, the socialist planned economy requires a totalitarian gov. And since in a hierarchy of egos, the ruthless and greediest will climb inevitably it will go bad immediately.

My father told me he was throwing molotov cocktails at the Bulgarian Communist Parliament in the Revolution, 5 years after his uncle was taken to Belene Bulgarian Communist Concentration camp.

Who runs the most efficient capitalist economy? a self proclaimed communist country (china) The video is not about capitalism vs socialism and so on. It's about the lack of true freedom in our current model and how big capital grown a stronger grip on everything

Yes a big part of the video is about the "problems of the commons" ie those who affects us all and are largely objectively unadressed

Thought everyone knew that laissez faire capitalism would just result in a monarchy and that is why we need some degree of government intervention/regulation.

I would not listen to this guy, he is more a celebrity than a serious ideologue. He is also a self-proclaimed communist.

This is the guy that takes big sums of Hollywood money to basically be an internet celebrity for edgy online communists.

Just look at this publisher, "Big Think", it is a media venture of the Charles Koch Foundation. It is literally a propaganda outlet that is owned by a family of actual billionaires.

How "anti-capitalist" can you be when the messages you send are sponsored and directed by the people who are in control of capitalism?

It's like if an oil company hired an environmental scientist to teach you about how environmentally friendly fossil fuels are. Any sort of "anti-capitalist" messaging from these sorts of companies is actually subversive to real criticism. They draw the boundaries and lines of what is allowed, and the line stops short at actually doing something about these problems.

A "communist" and "anti-capitalist" ideologue is a perfect tool for rich people to influence the conversation about capitalism. It is controlled opposition. The most "rebellious" minds are carefully curated to steer people's criticisms of capitalism. You think this video is about serious criticism, the truth is that it is about cash money dollars.

This guy is basically the philosophical equivalent of Joe Rogan, although I would argue that Joe Rogan has more influence. He built a cult of personality in popular media and capitalizes on it through this sort of expensive sponsored content. It's not some wild theory that rich people intentionally try to influence opinion, it's a basic fact of history. Some billionaires are even open about it to the press.

Hell, I currently work in marketing and that is basically the entire purpose of my profession. It works really well, and people will put in millions at a time just to influence people in a certain way. In my case, to influence people to buy things. In this case, to influence people to think a certain way about capitalism. A way that is superficially critical and safe for wealthy people.

yes thats what happens when you try to conflate philosophy and concepts of existentialism with economic models.

like oil and water, you try to mix, but the two are inherently immiscible (separate in solution by nature);we see this gnostic duality time and time again: primarily the spirit vs the material at odds; life on earth incompatible with the vacuum of outer space; darkness vs light; good vs evil; etc. Simply put, the mechanisms/logic of a system don't apply when you attempt to rationalize it in context of its polar opposite. As above, so below

so one publisher of one of his videos = being a tool for big capital? hmmm I don't think so. Have you read any of his books? Guy is a legit philosopher beyond said manipulation. Have you read any of his books?

btw he never claims to be anti capitalism and he knows and agrees that communism is dead. He is anti-ideological blindness if you had to put a label on him

How is his life is a mess? I think you're confusing him with Peterson... you know who went to Russia to get into a Benzo coma to cope with his sad life. Zizek has a healthy and wholesome life.

Unchecked democracy has never, ever turned into socialism. Socialism and communism have only manifested themselves after revolutions. And there has never been a single case of a socialist country going fascist. However many fascists have come into power through "democracy" so you have it all backwards bro.

Both Mussolini and Hitler came into power through democratic voting... while Lenin the chad simply seized power

The Nazi party was the national socialist workers party originally. Their "socialism" is how they voted in their fascism, the link between democracy becoming socialism becoming fascism all because they didn't keep democracy in check.

Yeah just saying, it's how they got voted in. It's routine for politicians to claim one thing only to do another.

His thoughts on freedom and the fact that we are slowly creeping into "unfreedom" where we think we are free because we have "choice" but those choices are predetermined is an interesting one. I can think of one example that strikes every single person in this modern world-the online profile we are contributing to with every link clicked, product purchased, news article read, even things we say in real life. All of it and more is being collected and used to feed us more things "the machine" thinks we're interested in. So far it's serving the profit motives of businesses that sell info and businesses that are paying for our eyeballs. How long until we are fed things in our feed that are "for our own good"? Talk to your neighbor about the latest home burglary on your block, next morning instead of ads for home security system in your feed you get propaganda on "The Surprising Benefits of Being Burglarized" or some crap to keep us docile. Google is already tailoring search results, nudging us, giving certain topics priority and memory holing stories that go against a narrative.
Virtue is its own reward.
