Social etiquette question for those that care about others

A friends newborn is in the hospital. He isn't a close friend that I hang out with weekly, but a good enough friend I would stop and talk to him if I saw him out and about.

What is the etiquette here?

I don't want to intrude at the hospital. I'm thinking of getting a $50 gift card to a restaurant next door to the hospital and just dropping it off.

Any input?

RSV is the illness. She is having issues breathing and is expected to be at least a few more days in the hospital.

When a loved one is in the hospital, especially your first kid, you live in the hospital while they are there. Just an easy option for him to grab a hot meal easily.
