Just got my girl an engagement ring. Prices are sickening and chits all a fuarking scam but I gave in and paid $7.5k. She's not materialistic at all and literally said she would be happy with a $20 ring she just wants to get married but we've been together for 10 years so she deserves more even though its a completely meaningless waste of money in reality. The wedding ring is only like $400-500

I didn't have an engagement ring. Just asked her to marry me (at some point) and she said yes.

Wedding bands were about 25€/$28 each, ded srs. Hers is sterling silver while mine was sterling but gold plated, ordered from some online shop. We figured at some point we're going to get real gold bands made, but its not a priority.

I think the total cost was about $2,700.

Ordered three blood diamonds from cutter in Tel Aviv. They were fedexed to me with GIA certificates. Sent diamonds to jeweler friend who confirmed diamonds matched certificates and he set them in a platinum band.

Would have been 3x the amount from the store.

WTF? Misc is supposed to be ballers and theaverageengagement ring cost across the US is $5.5k. That includes most people who make $25k a year. In the NE the average is $7.5k.

Also, women will lie and say they want an inexpensive one. But they really want one that's AT LEAST $6k. Hotter ones want $10k+.

If you’re balling (75k-100k starting in a MCOL area or lower) right out of college with no student loan debt AND your spouse to be is in the same boat, I don’t see a problem spending a bit more for your rings or wedding if that’s your thing. Like you said, most people aren’t making that kind of money prior to getting engaged or married yet they get themselves into tens of thousands of dollars in debt right before being legally obligated to one another. The American dream for most is just a huge scam.

My wife is very frugal, so she would have never asked for such a thing.

Together almost 20 years but still haven't gotten round to the actual wedding part. But I got her a ring she wears on her ring finger. I only spent one day's pay on it, ie $10k.

Why does it have to lead to a "proposal"? You're both grownups, surely in a serious relationship the topic of marriage comes up, and you both agree to get married. Wife's engagement ring was $6,000 - 1.2 carat diamond with two smaller ones on the side (with another ~$700 paid in tax lol)
Wife's wedding band was $1,200 (single band with small diamonds going half way around)
My wedding band was $500 (solid white gold)

Couldn't imagine putting anything under $30,000 on my wife's finger. It's a one time purchase that tells the world the type of man my future wife is attached to. If I can afford Rolex watches and investment property, I can afford to put a respectable ring on my wife.

Now that i think about it, it has an effect on men "in the wild" too. Whenever I see a woman with a 3 to 5carat ring. I'm always like





It's a subtle but loud "fuk you, don't even try it... I belong to an accomplished man" kind of statement. If I can't make that statement then i don't need to be getting married, i need to be stacking more wealth. Obviously money isn't everything, and I realize broke people and average joes fall in love too, but i'm not one of those people.

Proposed with a $50 ring from Walmart. Ded srs. Then we went and picked out an engagement ring/wedding band combo, I think that was like $1500 or so. Entire wedding cost including rings was <$10k.
